Now I know what a "Riv-nut" is. I had a loose bottle mount on my bike frame. It turned in circles when I tried to tighten a bolt into it. I drilled out the center and removed it. I had to use a slightly larger drill bit to enlarge the hole in the bike frame. I inserted a riv-nut into the hole. I used a long M6 allen head bolt and some washers to pull on the riv-nut until tight. I removed the M6 bolt and the riv-nut has stayed secure. There are videos on how to install these without special tools available online.

I used these to put bottle cages on an old road bike. They were easy to instal and feel very solid.

The aluminum seems to be soft, but I really have nothing to compare them to. Used the "bolt, nut, and washer" method of installing, and the top of the first rivnut distorted and squeezed up into the space left around the washer. On the second I used a smaller washer and less force and it worked fine. They seem to hold well. So, maybe practice a time or two before doing it for real and they should work well.

The previous owner let all of the water bottle screws rust and seize up which meant that when I tried to remove them I destroyed the inserts and had to use pliers to rip them out. It was quite a pain. So, got these new ones and replaced the ones that were beyond saving and it's been great so far! I only needed a couple so that it's nice that I probably have enough in this bag to last me the rest of my life!
