Great Starter Kit for Leather Working
When I was little, my dad used to make all sorts of leather working projects. We had handmade wallets, key wallet, key rings, quivers, change purses, purses, belts with our names embossed) and beautiful, beautiful patterns. You name it, my dad could make it.It seems over time though, leather working has become a lost art. I was looking for a simple starter kit that I would add to over time as I basically would be starting all over. The Leather Sewing Tool Kit by Simpizia is a 17 piece kit that covers all of your starter needs. All of the craft tools have wooden or steel handles making them incredibly sturdy. There are two spacer tools, an adjustable stitching groover, burnishing, scratch and sewing awls, and a jerk needle. The set also comes with beeswax for your thread, leather needles, scissors, finger cots, a thimble, a grinding polish tool, hairballs, and three colors of thread. All the items can be stored in the small black storage bag.The finger cots fit my fingers great but are a little small for my husband’s large hands. They fit my teenage daughter comfortably. I highly recommend using the finger cots and thimble because the tools are very sharp (as they need to be). Just messing around with the scratching awl, I easily traced a pattern into a small piece of leather just as a test. My daughter also started tracing a pattern that she will later make into some type of pouch or holder. The tools are easy for her to use.We need to add a few stamping pieces to this set, but so far we are enjoying our journey back into leather-working. This 17 piece kit can be found on Amazon.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XDMB7H5

Great for beginning and small small crafts
The kit that I received was the 15 piece set. To clarify, it did not have the wool dauberThe adjustable stitching groover works better on light-weight leather. It wasn’t the best pick on the medium weight black leather I worked with. It helped to keep my stitches more even (prettier). The thread included in the kit was thick enough to cover the indentation the groover makes when using a saddle stitch, so the indentation is not noticeable in finished work.I love the finger cots—they worked really well at protecting my small fingers. My female friend who has medium fingers had a harder time fitting them on her fingers. I imagine a man with medium or large fingers wouldn’t be able to use them at all. That’s where the thimble band comes in. You could adjust it to use for medium and larger hands. My kit came with one straight wood awl, one straight head awl, one hook awl, and a hollow awl. I feel all of these are proficient for a beginner on thin leather or canvas. I like the straight head the best, but that’s just personal preference. The scissors are also best for light weight leather and canvas. They did work on medium weight leather with tiny strokes and edging work. I would suggest a heavier duty scissors for anything other than lightweight materials. My kit came with the following needles: glover’s, carpet, curved mattress (one small, one larger), sail, straight upholstery, sack. There are two I haven’t used yet, but I’m perfectly happy with the others.I prefer to freehand rather than use the stitching wheels, but I did use them for this review. They worked well, but if stitches weren’t done quickly, the holes closed over before I got there. I would suggest rolling only a short distance at a time.Overall, I think this is a great kit for beginners and those working with lightweight small crafts.

Overall, a great set
Overall this is a great set for a beginner. I gave it four stars because one of the awls broke from the handle. I am still able to use it, though, so I am not too upset. I felt like the selection of items was a good value for the price. I have used the tools on several projects so far, and despite one of the awls separating from the handle the remaining products have held up well. In retrospect, I would still purchase this set.

I have no idea what I'm doing with these tools since I've never worked on leather before today. I also realise this review is a bit premature since I have only used them once and probably not the right way.I got these to repair my husband's AWP Tool Pouch (Suede) since they have been making them with horrible quality and the seams for the belt loops and the grommets at the corners have come undone. 3 pouches, less than 3 months, same exact thing. So, since AWP has horrendous customer service (like non-existent) and never sent the replacement they offered like a year ago, I decided I would get this kit and try to resew the seam and reinforce the corners.I went at it with one of the needles and thread included, and used the pointy tool to open extra holes. This is thick suede and 2 layers of it and I wondered if the tool would just bent or come right off the handle... It held up great! I put all my arm strength into it and it went through both pieces.I checked out the other tools and they all seem to be great quality. The thread was great. I pulled an hard as I could and it did not break, so it is very strong.I can't wait to figure out what the rest of the tools are for and how to use them!

Great Kit - Great Deal!
I just love this set - it has so many parts and even came with a zippered pouch to keep it all in. I know that a professional will probably buy something higher quality, but for the amateur crafter who just needs the tools to work with occasionally on small jobs, this is a dynamite kit. Please don't get me wrong - I'm not saying the parts are cheaply made, because they are not. I'm just saying that if you need a starter kit (like me) or if you need to replace a busted tool, then this is a great set to buy. The pieces in the kit, their quality, and the price. Gee - it's a real deal.
