Works well to keep the sharp edge protected and to protect you from the edge. The two pieces are connected by a central buckle that's adjustable to fit different axe sizes. The axe cover part is quite large (but too loose), so it'd fit larger sizes as well. Wouldn't be a bad idea to work in some leather conditioner/oil if you're going to be using it out in the elements regularly to keep the leather in good shape.
