Fight Night in the DC Universe. (Book 1 Pt. 6)
I am always excited when a new Bruce Timm project is on the way. Whenever a new one is released on DVD the first thing I do after I watch the feature is watch the preview for the next one. When `Green Lantern: First Flight' was released I could not wait to see what `Superman/Batman: Public Enemies' was all about. I will be brief I pre-ordered the movie exactly one day after I saw the preview.I am always excited to see a Superman and Batman crossover because there is such a great lineage of stories when these two heavy hitters collide. They are so similar and yet so different at the same time and sometimes you don't even know if they are pals or want to kill each other. The premise of Public Enemies is a pretty easy to follow story. Pulled right from the Joef Loeb story, Lex Luthor manages to become president when the world is pretty much in chaos. Doing so, he manages to bring the world back to stability and manages to hire an interesting secret service. Led by the patriotic Captain Atom, Black Lightning, Power Girl and other well known heroes are now working to keep America safe. Unfortunately they didn't notice the country sized kryptonite meteor heading towards Earth. Luthor, as president feels now is a great time to finally get Superman so he blames the meteor on him and sets a one billion dollar bounty to bring Superman to justice. Now the most powerful hero is on the run from heroes and villains alike and the only person who believes him and knows how to set things right is none other than Batman. This movie has a lot of great elements, but there are a few problems with it as well. The major flaw in this film is plot. The story while it is fun to watch there are a few parts that really don't make much sense. For people who love these movies, but don't read the comic books they probably have no idea who some of the characters are. The graphic novel which this film is based on has a few major plot points removed which are essential to the story. This problem is linked to another flaw. `Public Enemies' is way too short and due to time constraints is why we have these gaping holes in the story. This is actually the shortest of all the DC Animated movies running at a shameful 67 minutes. I mean I know that this movie was all about the action and it was win with a side of awesome sauce I think the movie would have given justice if it had been at least 90 minutes. The positives on the other hand make the negatives tolerable. The first plus is the animation style. What I love the most about the DC Animated projects is when they base their films directly on graphic novel stories they try pay homage to the comic art through the animation. `Justice League: New Frontier' was the first one to do so and like it `Superman/Batman: Public Enemies' pretty much took the characters from the comic and brought them right to the TV as the big, buffed muscle on muscle powerhouses they are in the book. It just made the action sequences so much more awesome when you saw Superman or Batman throw a punch you pretty much said `Yea...they can hit that hard'. The other plus was the voice cast. With the success of the 3 part Worlds Finest episodes of STAS it was only right to bring Clancy Brown, Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy back. They have worked together for so long and their chemistry is incredible. Of course my favorite thing about this film was it was an in your face, knock`em out the box slugfest. Every second a new adversary and some of the most intense action I had seen since the final episode of JLU.Once again Bruce Timm and company do it again bringing us a fun film. Still, while there has been so much success with this one and its predecessors there are a still some kinks that need to be worked out. I know there are plenty more films to make and who knows which story they will choose next. The next project `Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths' is definitely a make or break, just because of the history that this film is based on. They are really anticipating this one to be their best, and I don't think they would try to disappoint.End of Book 1

Super fun!
I was very excited when I first saw the previews for this movie. After one viewing, I was not disappointed. The storyline was interesting and entertaining, although a bit rushed. I think they definitely could have made it a bit longer. There was a good dynamic set up between Batman and Superman that you don't usually get to see. You really get the sense that even though they have their differences, they really do care about each other, almost like brothers. The action sequences are really fun to watch. Not only are our favorite heroes up against Lex Luthor but they go toe to toe with an entire rogues gallery of villains and even some other heroes. They're literally fighting back to back, which is awesome to see.The voice actors were stellar, as always. I am so glad the went with their "stock" players instead of looking for new voice talent. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Kevin Conroy is one of my favorite people to listen to. Tim Daly and Clancy Brown aren't too shabby, either. As for the animation, it was good but seemed a little weird in places. Some of the characters just didn't look right. Superman's face seemed odd at certain angles and Amanda Waller just looked like a toad, or something. I'm not sure what they were going for but it didn't work, visually, for me.All of the special features on Disc 1 are related to previous WB/DC releases, so nothing new there. Fortunately, on Disc 2, we get three new featurettes. The first discusses the psychology and relationship of Batman and Superman. I thought this was pretty interesting. I really enjoyed the "Dinner with DCU and Special Guest Kevin Conroy" feature, although it's not technically a dinner. They just have dessert but it was fun to watch. There is a preview of the soon to be released Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (Two-Disc Edition) , which looks good despite the fact that they're using all new voice actors. Finally, there are two episodes from Superman: The Animated Series in which Batman also appears (The Demon Reborn and Knight Time).Overall, I was pleased with this release and look forward to (hopefully) many more future relases. Thank you WB & DC!

Great Film Awful packaging
Film 5/5Packaging 1/5Seriously the bluray case was already broken and had soft tags and random stickers over it. Amazing film and I know the packaging shouldn't detract from that but my collection looks more shoddy now.

Dissspointed...unfortunatly.
Before I say what I say...just want you to know that I love the DC and Marvel animated movies. I've really enjoyed all of them...from Marvel's Ultimate Avengers to DC's Wonder Woman. It's with that in mind that I'm disappointed to say that Superman/Batman: Public Enemies left me feeling quite disappointed. Sure...I had great expectations going into it (really loved Superman Doomsday and Gotham Knight). However, despite the return of Clancy Brown, Kevin Conroy and Tim Daly...the great fight scenes and the now token presence of at least one hilarious adult/sexual related line being delivered (in reference to Power Girl)...the story just moved far too quickly for me.Superman Doomsday and even Wonder Woman...felt like stories that were drawn out over time allowing you to enjoy each event as it unfolded (For e.g. Superman's death, the arrival of the new Superman, his change in personality...Wonder Woman's back story...preparation to visit the US...the final battle...etc etc) but Superman/Batman: Public Enemies just moved from scene to scene too quickly...seemingly in a rush to get to the end. How exactly did the Batman/Superman V Hawkman/Shazam fight end and what did the actual public think of Superman as the declared enemy of the state? These are just two examples and the latter question would have given the movie a more serious sense of darkness (Superman Doomsday showed this really well). They seemed far too concerned with sticking as many great fights into the movie as they could (and they were great fights - still not as good as Superman V Doomsday ;o)Also...what gives with Batman in this? Does he have super powers? He takes serious beatings and seems to fully recover each time...from an explosive in very, very close quarters (okay a seriously injured Superman might have shielded him from that...but the resulting fall?) and a direct hit from Hawkman's mace.*** SPOILER ALERT ***How did he survive that nuclear explosion in the end and still have the ability to walk out of his ship and stand on the roof top looking like nothing happened????*** SPOILER ALERT ENDS ***It was also interesting to note the ease at which Superman and Batman seemed to overcome the multitude of villains that they were up against...all at the same time. Normally when battling these same villains one on one...they have a harder time.I've given this movie three stars coz I just couldn't bare to give it two (all down to it's entertaining fights). Hey I'm a loyal fan of these movies :o) Unfortunately, the poorly delivered story just left me very disappointed with the overall movie (even the more cartoony style of animation didn't bother me that much!).

An interesting story, but sub-par animation
I really wanted to like this movie. But there's a few things that hold it back.First off though, the story is pretty good. I'm sure it's adapted from a comic book storyline, but I'm judging it solely based off this movie. Lex Luthor becomes the president of the US. Superman obviously doesn't trust him. Then a Kryptonite meteor is headed straight for Earth, and it's a race to see who can save the day first, Lex Luthor using his shady methods, or Superman and Batman. The movie moves fast, and has a few twists. But overall it has a point, and doesn't over complicate things. The animation is rough though. And the character designs are not great. Yes, I know these are comic book characters. But the superhero men are body builders wearing spandex, and the women are so overly sexualized. But both don't have a good shared art design (like the DCAU). Powergirl has always been ridiculously designed. But here seems worse. This is a shared trait with Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. It's a shame, because the animation is very bright. Which at first glance makes it feel like it's for a younger audience. But based on the sexual designs, some creepy sexual advances by Luthor, and some cursing, it's definitely not for young kids. The movie is actually quite self-aware. There are tons of characters that pop up (mostly bad guys). And Batman and Superman have a decent amount of one-liners poking fun at themselves. This could have been a great movie. But a handful of things definitely hold it back.Bought this for $8.25. This is an early DC animation feature from the DC Premiere line. It is worth watching. But it's not in the top half of DC animated films.

Superman/Batman save the world!
Superman Batman Public Enemies at heart is basically a short little buddy movie. In a time of great economic unrest (sound familiar); Lex Luthor gets elected as president of the United States and when Superman spurns his effort to recruit him; frames him for the murder of another villain. And soon he and Batman are on the run from tons of super villains not to mention half-a-dozen heroes and an asteroid from Krypton as well. But really it's all about the fighting. Lots and lots of fighting. Now to be honest about it; this is not one of DC's best works. It's an earlier effort and it shows having none of the complexities or really caring about the characters that later pieces like Under the Red Hood or Superman/Batman Apocalypse (which is really about Supergirl) or even Wonder Woman do so well in spades. It's much simpler and never rises to those levels. It's also a little short at 67 minutes but considering the storyline or lack thereof might be a blessing in disguise as anything longer would simply have been filler. It does however, as always with these DC/Marvel bluray collections, have a ton of extras. The best one being a 20 min. documentary on the Superman Batman relationship. There's also another 10 min. piece on the creation of the Blackest Night comic series. Everything else is filler including an hour long talk over dinner with the DC creative team. Five different previews of 10 mins. each which are more like mini-documentaries on other DC movies from Wonder Woman to Crisis on Two Earths. And four tv episodes from the Justice League tv series centering on the Superman Batman dynamic and two tv episodes from the Superman tv series. One where Batman saves Superman; the other in reverse. It's also very simple regarding the audio options. There are none! You get English Dolby Digital 5.1. That's it. No HD or DTS options here. And the only subtitle tracks are Hearing impaired and French. Nothing more. Overall, I'd rate this a 3 for the audio and extra's; 3-1/2 for the movie. It's okay, but nothing more.J. A.

So einen Realfilm wünschte ich mir.
Hmmm...
