Mercy

A lot of fun to read!
The Atlee Pine novels are the most suspense-filled stories I have enjoyed in quite a spell. The series includes the following: A Long Road to Mercy, A Minute to Midnight and Daylight before concluding with Mercy. We first meet FBI Special Agent Atlee Pine as she is assigned her duties, encompassing the Grand Canyon, investigating a missing person’s case in the A Long Road to Mercy. Atlee’s early life consisted of her receiving serious head trauma as her twin sister was kidnapped right from their bedroom in the middle of the night. The pain of that memory is further exacerbated by the rhyme the intruder used to decide which girl to kidnap, a well-known child’s rhyme, “eenie, meenie, miney, mo”!Now, Atlee is a young woman who pushes herself to be the best agent she can be, solving crimes she is sent to investigate. However, it is hard for Atlee to move one day without thinking of her sister, Mercy, and the pain of being separated for thirty years, not knowing what ever happened to her twin. In this concluding story, readers get to see if Mercy is alive or not and where has she been. Lest one thinks that is all to the story, there is much more along with other investigations Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum must solve if they can.In the exciting conclusion of this story, audiences find out if Atlee finds her mother and father. Have the past risks her mother took to bring down the mafia come after them but left Atlee alone? Also, in the novel we meet a vicious man whose long-term memory of past wrongs done to him, his family and others will cause Atlee to be in his crosshairs. Carol Blum is in real danger multiple times in the story, and it was gripping to see the lengths Atlee would go to find and rescue her. Her depth of love for Carol is very evident!I hope this isn’t the last we see of the character Atlee Pine. Atlee is a strong, capable FBI Agent who has faced extremely tough times and people, yet she rises to the occasion to fight for justice! I think in the story we see a little more humanness of Atlee when she faces people wanting to do harm to those who are vulnerable. Atlee is one focused young lady who I think has a bright future, not just with the FBI, but with audiences, especially if she is teamed up with other well-loved characters from other Baldacci novels. Mercy was a rollercoaster ride that was constantly pulling me with each page I read! I hope audiences will consider reading the whole series from start to finish. It was very fun and exciting to bury oneself in the character and series! There is no teaser or hint of what might be penned from this author; all I know is I can’t wait to read whatever comes next!

Well worth the wait. Great ending to a riveting story. Forgot how good Baldacci is.
Read it in a day! The last time that happened was in high school with Shane. Great way to spend a rainy Sunday.

Another Baldacci win in the Atlee Pine Series
David Baldacci's Atlee Pine series was engrossing enough that I grabbed each of the books the minute they came out. I don't know if this is the last entry. Atlee Pine is an FBI agent who, throughout this series, is on leave from work to look for her twin sister Mercy. She is joined by her assistant, Carol Blum, an older woman who has worked for the FBI forever and who is a dear friend and mother figure for Atlee. When the twins were six, a man kidnapped Mercy and attempted to murder Atlee after choosing between them by the old child's rhyme, "eenie meenie, minie, moe." As the series develops, it becomes clear that neither sister "won" and we follow through the books the devastating impact on Atlee, who uncovers slowly the terrible outcome of this kidnapping for her sister. The characters are interesting and sympathetic and, as to Atlee and some others larger than life. This fourth book in the series was rather violent. introduced some terrific villains as well as people who were passive villains, i.e., who failed to do the "right" thing in the face of evil and danger to other people. Atlee and Carol are exposed to serious danger when their search for Mercy puts them in the path of a very disturbed man with both a personal grudge against one dear to them and a grudge against the US government. This story is violent at times, engrossing at times, moving at times and altogether entertaining. I would say that the level of disbelief I had to suspend was rather large for this book as some of the turns it took seemed outlandish, but certainly they were consistent with the outlandish characters and, sadly, with things we all observe in the news. You just don't WANT to believe in such evil. Baldacci is consistent in his writing, creative with his plots; is "fair" in that he develops the stories with proper clues for us; he provides plenty of support to explain the craziness of some characters and how some can win against great odds; and his depictions of scenes and predicaments are very visual. I never regret reading a Baldacci thriller.

Atlee Pine
David Baldacci is a great story teller. Such a great suspenseful thriller. So many families have so many hidden issues and hopefully their outcomes are as good as the Pine family.

FEMALE EMPOWER
Atlee and Carol continue to unravel secrets on their quest to find Mercy. They learn that Mercy escaped from their captors and is believed to be alive. She is alive but struggling to survive from one paycheck to the next and with a scumbag’s brother after her for trying to help a friend. The FBI agent and her witty assistant had most of the past figured out, they also learn who the twin’s real father is and why their mother abandoned them. This concludes Atlee’s search for Mercy. I hope the series continue in Colorado field office where agent Pine is stationed. Both women work the cases like no other female duo.

Cried so many times during this dark book....
Then at the end, I broke down and wept like a baby. I wish I could say that there was a bow and a HEA, but there was too much misery and unhappiness to all simply wash clean. Still, despite the depression that washed over me while reading this series, it was unquestionably one of his very finest IMHO.... And I sincerely hope to read more of this family in the future.... But, this time I will come with a box of tissues in hand. Thank you, Mr. Baldacci, for a gut and heart wrenching ride....Double the stars, this series earned it!

The mystery resolves at last
I liked the evolution of the characters in this novel, and the conclusion of the main problem, but felt as though the ending was a little rushed. I overall enjoyed it and there were very interesting developments
