Think Biblically!: Recovering a Christian Worldview

Incredible Read
Reading this book brought about many thoughts.. as the book as a whole completely changed my view of what being a disciple of Jesus Christ is. My first thought was this:So many churches, including my own have fundamentals of teaching what it means to be a Christian. A very biblical way of doing so, if it wasn't for God having favor to show me the way to being a disciple through someone meeting me at a movie theater, I wouldn't be where I am today. But here's where this book became a big part of my Christian walk today...First, having a deeper understanding of sin and why it has such a HUGE affect on mankind alone helped me have a much understanding of God's plan of salvation, helped me understand why Jesus died. You can read scriptures and books, and hear from people in church on their perspective on why sin is prevalent, why Christ died and what God's plan of salvation is, but John really laid it out for me, in great detail, which helped put years of thought and Bible study to paint a great picture for me.The second thought was the book helped me shape my world views in a way that brings the scriptures in line with what I see, deal with and endure daily... Something that many churches don't speak on..Amazing book. I can go on and on but John has always been a hero in the faith for me and it was an honor to read his work and those who collaborated with him to write this book

Be prepared to be confonted
As most, if not all, John MacArthur's books, this book is easy to read and most amenable, with plenty of biblical references that help build a solid foundation. Be prepared to be confronted on some issues that may have become popular and mainstream but are biblically unsound, even heretical. The chapter about the Fall was a delight to read, Satan's cunning and deceptiveness are fully revealed when MacArthur explores in detail the seeds of doubt and wickedness that are so subtly planted in Eva's mind. It left me with a much more clear understanding on James 1:14-15.

What is postmodernism?
For the last few years my ears perked up whenever I heard the word postmodernism. I also did some reading on this philosophy when it came up in other books. I read chapter 7 slowly several times, and while I still can't explain postmodernism very well to others, I now understand postmodernism much better than ever. How did so many people in our country (and much of the world) get so mixed up? Answer: Postmodernism. The rest of the book was fantastic, extremely well written, reinforcing and building on ideas I already had. Chapter 7 "Understanding our Postmodern World" opened my eyes like never before.

Biblical view of the world. A must read!
This is a great book for Christians to understand the proper biblical worldview. It goes deep into the biblical references to the most prominent topics of today. It is not a "how to" book as some that were written lately, but a thorough biblical and theological study on the proper biblical prescriptions for believers. The last chapter dealing about arts and literature is the low point of the book. I suggest additional reading including such books as: "Apostate" (By Kevin Swanson), "How to Survive in a World of Unbelievers" (By John Macarthur), and "Who are You to Judge?" (By Erwin Lutzer).

Must have for shaping your worldview
The must have in terms of wanting to train your mind and thinking to think about the world we live in today. I would recommend to any and everyone who wants to grow in their thinking and interpretation of this world, current events, and cultures from a Biblical perspective. Truly a must have and a great release from Masters Seminary.

College course in a Biblical worldview concept
A really outstanding book exploring the concept and role of the Christian mind throughout history with a challenge to the reader to be not just a hearer of the word, but a doer as well. MacArthur is thoroughly Reformed in his presentation of the Christian worldview laying out the foundation of the Creation-Fall-Redemption model as the framework within which is built the Christian mind. MacArthur begins with presenting the case for the sufficiency and authority of Scripture and continues to remind the reader that developing intellect is not the goal of the Christian worldview - rather, it is bringing all things into focus using the lens of God's revealed Word. MacArthur writes that "the Christian mind should be a repository of God's revealed truth." The rest of Part One of the book presents the foundational truths of the nature of God, the nature of man and man's responsibility to walk in obedience to God's will in his relations to others.MacArthur then taps the expertise of his faculty at The Master's College in Part Two as each chapter explores some component of a biblical worldview. The chapters cover issues such as understanding the currently postmodern thought, profiling true masculinity and femininity, an in depth examination of the role of worship and music, a contrasting view of psychology with true biblical counseling, a look at the significance of science, the role of Christian education, an honest reflection on history, a biblical worldview of the church in relation to the state, a biblical concept of economics and the importance of literature and the arts in culture from a Christian perspective. Each chapter really could be its own book on the subject, presented from a professor whose expertise is in that particular field of study.Personally, I enjoyed the book, especially the foundational concepts presented in Part One. MacArthur's Coming to Grips with Sin (chapter 4) was absolutely outstanding and is essential for the Christian to understand that Scripture teaches that sin is the problem with the human dilemma and the only viable solution to the condition of mankind is offered through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Every chapter had something valuable - a nugget of pure gold - but the second half of the book was pretty tough treading. Overall, a very good book that would be an excellent recommendation for any person interested in examining how their faith addresses all facets of life beyond just the issues of religion.

But gives good info about a Biblical worldview
Very deep. Especially when talking about modernism and post modernism with regards to how people think about life. Not sure I understood all of it. Probably need to reread it. But gives good info about a Biblical worldview.
