Q: How much food will it hold

This will hold roughly two cans of soup or two packages of ramen if you break them up.

Q: Is it really made of steel?

Yes, it is made out of food grade magnetic stainless steel, and is well made. The lid fits well and with the handle latched it can be used for a lovely little cook kit. I have a small stainless plate two nesting stainless 1 cup bowls,a smaller bowl with it's own lid, a stainless ramiken,and a small dishcloth all stowed inside it for camping. The handle feels pretty solid for one that folds up, too! The handle on the lid is tiny, but it has to be so the pot handle locks everything together when it's folded up.

Q: Can i use this over an open flame?

Yes, it is all stainless steel except for the lid handle, and can handle the flame from camp stoves and campfires easily, I use it with my rocket stove.
