Nice smaller version of a Kelly Kettle
I really like this mKettle it is a slower but much quieter version of a Jetboil. That is if you only use a jet boil to boil water. It can use wood to boil the water or you can use a home made alcohol stove or a Trangia to heat the water. It comes with a nice carrying case and it packs down to about the size of a Nalgene bottle. If you are in an area where open fires are allowed you can use this little kettle to boil up water all day and not use a drop of petroleum based fuel.

Nice robust item, performs well.
The mKettle is nice and strong, being made of substantial metal, although still light in weight. However, it was slightly less well finished than expected... nothing terrible, though. Just a couple of rough edges to the hole in the fire-basket base.I wish that the bung was captive, like the version of this boiler available in the States. Nevertheless, the bung seems secure in its hole to the point where water can be stored/carried inside the mKettle without worrying about leaks. The neoprene sleeve has been improved. It now has a substantial webbing "handle" incorporated from top to bottom, which feature is just about rigid enough to pour with. This handle can be arranged to be on the opposite side to the pour hole, and so keeps the hand away from boiling water.Note: It is quite important to pour off (drink?) a little water before starting to heat it up. If the level is too high (filled right to the top IS too high) the water will definitely boil over as it reaches boiling point. No great harm is done, because the neoprene sleeve dries pretty quickly, but it will tend to quench the fire.Using the mKettle with a Trangia spirit burner works well enough, although there is a certain amount of what I call "motor-boating." Let me clarify....The hot air and flame from the Trangia burner rise so quickly up the chimney, that a considerable draught occurs at the fire basket ventilation hole as it feeds air fast enough to replenish that rising air. Because of the resultant breeze entering on that side of the burner's ring of jets, the flames adjacent get blown sideways and become separated from the jet holes. They are not extinguished, as such, but it does make their burning more intermittent and noisy.... making a high frequency "popping" sound rather like an outboard motor heard across the water... hence "motor boating." Whether this unstable burning increases the boiling time, or not, I do not know. Certainly the flame SIZE from the Trangia burner is not compromised by use in the mKettle. On the contrary, before the water boils, say about 8 minutes, the flames actually grow big enough to start coming out of the chimney top!The motor boating phenomenon doesn't happen with burning wood, and may not happen with different designs of spirit burner than the Trangia.Even with these little quirks, all in all I am delighted by my mKettle. It is a nice thing to own. I especially like that it seems so tough, and that the bung fits well enough to make it a leakproof water carrier. Oh, and I also like that it has a really strong well made mini-duffle bag to store it in.

Poor copy. Potential burn risk due to loose stubby cover
100% sure this is a copy as I have owned one before..seems cheaply made and no British flag on it like there used to be. Neoprene jacket looks like it was made for another product. It comes part way up, is loose and badly made. Not same item as pictured. This was a gift so just had to bite my lip and pretend it was authentic. As the cover doesn't cover the item like it should it will be a burn risk

Great update of very old "Thermette" design- comp-act enough to take on long cycling tours.
I've used it on two long cycle tours-- boils enough water for two coffees in minimum time. I use solid fuel tablets initially then top up with any available fuel such as sticks, twigs, leaves etc. Saves carrying gas bottles or liquid fuels.

Hi tec, low tec.
This is a marvellous piece of kit. It's become one of my favourite belongings. It will brew up a pint of water in no time and on almost no fuel. I've only used it three times but I hope it lasts for ever.Sitting in the drizzle on the banks of a loch in Shetland, feeding heather twigs into the chimney, watching the smoke drift away over the water, listening to the curlews and the crackling flame and anticipating a brew of Lapsang made with fresh stream water is a wondrous experience. Before leaving home I packed the fire cup with birch-bark for tinder and put it into a small cloth bag before tucking it up into the bottom of the kettle for travel. That way it doesn't rattle as I walk, and I always have natural fuel to get the fire going, even if it gets wet.The mKettle is smaller, lighter and simpler than the options from Kelly, Ghillie and Storm so it's easier to pack and has fewer things to malfunction or fall off. Who needs a spout when a hole will do? You don't need a chain or handle when there's a simple neoprene sleeve. Oh and that sleeve hasn't yet been hurt by the fire and probably keeps the water insulated as it heats up.One tip - don't light it on the grass. It'll leave a scorched circle behind. That's what happened when I first used a Kelly Kettle about 10 years ago. It could have led to rumours of alien space-ships and impending crop circles.I have no hesitation in recommending the design and function. I intend taking it every time I go out walking now so it'll get some industrial grade use. I hope it stands up to it, but I can't see any reason yet why it shouldn't.

Not Quite as Described
Well made but version sent to me was not anodized (as described), did not have a carry bag (as described) and did not pour that well. So returned it and bought a stainless steel Kelly Kettle instead - which is heavier but entirely as described and pours well.
