Q: what kind of stone is this made of? Is this lead free? Do you have to season the bowl on a regular basis?

Questions answered in order.1. Granite. 2. Lead is ubiquitous as an element in the earth's crust. I think it is in the top 40 most abundant elements found on earth. So, will there be lead atoms within the granite? Quite possibly, but do remember that this is a stone and not a man-made material made with the element. Accordingly, these stone bowls will not be a source of lead exposure. 3. No, you may choose to season them once when new or let them season naturally with use. We have done both and either seems to work out well.

Q: can this bowl be used on stove top for cooking? I am planning on cooking lentils in this. Wanted to be sure that it is ok to use on gas stovetop

I have used it on my gas stove but WITH a diffuser. However it was just to reheat so I do not know about using it for as long as it would take to cook lentils. Personally, i would be apt to try it but only if Ii used my diffuser. Hope this helps.
