One of my favorite SD's
I own a lot of Seymour Duncan pickups. JB,59,PG,BW,INV,C,CC,peg,sent,ssl1, antiq,ssl5, list goes on. This pickup I installed in my Charvel So cal, paired with the whole lotta humbucker neck replacing the distortion set. It's a massive improvement I could of kept the disatortion neck which I grew to love but anyways.. The TB14 cuts out the loose somewhat exscuse my description sloppy (my opinion of course) bottom end of the distortion bridge. Now I play through the newer 20 watt JCM800 combo with a celestion gold alnico speaker. The MArshall sure has the mids so I think it's perfect with this amp but I always dial my mids back to 11 O'clock. I can also acheive lots of mids if I want with the combo so if that's your thing you don't need to count this out. I only split the pickup while using it with the split neck never on it's own but a great reason to have a moderate output pickup with the intention of splitting is not much volume loss.I will purchase another Custom 5 to be sure for my other guitars as I think it will be more forgiven in other types compared to other pickups. I think it's a great pickup for many things. On paper this rig would lead someone to think I play metal but I do low gain stuff and like the versatility of the so cal and S body stayle. If your thing is metal or more it''s great for that too as I dable and gain can always be added. The only issue I had was that i ordered the black and recieved the nickel. I didn't feel like returning it so I hacked up my pickguard to fit. Looks different in a charvel with one covered and the neck black but it's alright. When I buy another I'll use the nickel in an Epiphone.

Favorite Seymour Duncan Bridge Pickup
I have 4 guitars with Seymour Duncan pickups in the bridge position. Two have the Duncan Custom Trembucker (TB-5), one has the Alnico II Pro (APH-1B) and one has this pickup - Duncan Custom 5 Trembucker (TB-14). The TB-14 is my favorite, and was an incredible upgrade in my PRS Custom 24 SE. It has the texture and refined "grit" of the APH-1B with better treble response and harmonics AND a tighter/more defined bottom. I am absolutely floored with this pickup. When coil-tapped (Slug Coil) it really sounds decent as a single coil pickup, and the way I wired the switch, I get a realistic "quack" tone when the neck and bridge pickups are coil-tapped and the 3-way switch is in the middle position. If you have an amp that can put out the gain, this pickup handles Pop, Classic Rock and Metal with ease. I originally thought I would use one of my guitars equipped with the TB-5 for heavier rock, but the TB-14 just sounds more present and articulate no matter how the amp is set. I highly recommend this pickup for the bridge in any guitar destined for Pop, Pop/Country, Rock or Metal.

Modification needed to install, screws too long.
Nice pickups but why do the screws protrude from the bottom of the pickup? I don't have the exact measurements but the screws protrude about 3/8" from the bottom of the pickup. The screws hit the bottom of the pickup cavity and prevent the pickup from being lowered level to the guitar body. To get them installed and be correctly adjustable I had to remove some wood from the bottom of the pickup cavity below the screws. Other than the installation problem I love the pickup. Can the screws be shortened or does that effect the output?
