Light and easy read
Review of 'Touched by magic'. This is my first book by Jeanjean and I found it an enjoyable introduction to the Mayak, the magical beings inhabiting her part of the world. It is very much a 'book one of...'. The first book is a good introduction to the world and neatly sets up the next in the series. It avoids most of the overused tropes that many in this genre fall prey to.The MC (Apiya) is a pleasant surprise. A genuinely unique character. So far, she seems unusual, in that she does not appear to be unexpectedly or overwhelmingly powerful, but is still capable and confident in herself, with good friends around her. She comes across as a nice person on first reading. These days some authors seem to confuse trying to make their character edgy with making them cocky and arrogant. I also love the fact that she has a good relationship with her parents. All too often parents are either entirely absent or tragically dead. She makes the most of what skills she has and sensibly trains to defend herself for situations where she would otherwise be magically overmatched. She responds naturally to the situation she is put in, with frustrations and concerns that we would experience in the same situation, while avoiding falling into the TSTL category. As we read further, we slowly begin to learn about the magic that exists in the world as well as the various species of Mayak. Characters are introduced and information given without feeling like you're being bombarded, while still being detailed enough to give depth to the story. Overall, I found it a pleasant read and would pick up more by this author again.

Enjoyable start to the series
Apiya Chapman lives in a world with magic in it, and she’s been touched by that magic. Unfortunately her specialty isn’t great, in fact it’s almost laughable. At least that’s what the Mayak think, when they even give any other species a thought. But she’s genuine, almost too truthful, and gets on really well with her parents. Apiya comes across as someone you’d like to meet, maybe not to spend too much time with as she seems to attract trouble. The world building in this book is really good, not your usual run of the mill fantasy style, it makes a nice change to be surprised by an author. It also makes me want to read more in this series. Well worth a read

Engrossing
Love the story line only one disappointment, if she grew and was educated in the Uk, its not Ass, it's Arse. Wes do not confuse our rear ends with furry large mamals with big ears, four legs and a tail

Great start to new series
This is a great start to the new series. The strength is in the characters and the dialogue much like in The Viper and the Urchin series but the world it is set in was also detailed and fascinating without lots of boring description. I liked that the main character was a female barber and she does not have lots of magical powers but just a touch of magic so she has to rely on friends and pets and her brains to get by when she finds herself in trouble. Two of the main characters have names starting with the same letter her boss, Mr Sangong, and Sarroch, the powerful buisnessman, these names are not otherwise similar and the characters are not at all alike but I did have to slow my reading down to get which was which established in my head. As the book went on I got better at it - Sarroch definitely has some of the best lines. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Different in so many ways
A magical journey through a whole new world of magic. The Tainted are the lowest in the magical community, so when one of them tasks a Tainted with their most precious possession with protection things go awry. Not read anything by this author before, but this one has opened a whole new series. Lots of detail (as expected in the first book) and intro to amazing characters. An adventure that makes you want more!!

Interesting New series
A feisty reluctant heroine is thrust into a peace making role, to find a solution to the world's growing ecological problem.Unknown to the humans\mundane the Eco problems are also impacting the magical creatures inhabiting the world. A solution has to be found to prevent matters from really getting overheated. I liked this first book but found it difficult to keep track of all the different creatures and their peculiar abilities.

You have to read this
Oh my goodness, this book has brought a new genre for me to read. A somewhat mediocre main character who grew on me as the book progressed. With both friends, possible friends and enemies in small numbers this series looks its getting read.
