## Overview

The Rack-A-Tiers Stud Ball is a portable, battery-free magnetic stud finder featuring a powerful 27-pound pull rare earth magnet. Its unique spherical design enhances magnetic field strength, enabling it to detect metal studs, screws, and nails through up to 5/8" drywall, ceramic tile, and 3/4" plywood. ## Description

The stud Ball is a protected magnetic stud finder that will out perform and other type of magnetic stud finder on the market. Unlike other steel stud finders, the stud Ball can detect metal through 1/2″ or 5/8″ drywall or other thicker building materials. Will also work through ceramic tiling and up to 3/4″ plywood paneling

Review: The best stud finder, bar none. Especially for finding the center of metal studs. - By far the best stud finder I've ever used, for finding the center of metal studs. I've used a variety of other neodymium magnets, and any of them work for finding a stud, but they're not precise enough to find the center, and unprotected magnets leave marks on the walls. The spherical shape of this magnet lets you slide the magnet around to see where it's sticking best, and place it right in the center. The magnet is strong enough to adhere to a steel stud through 5/8" thick drywall. It will stick even more strongly to screw / nail heads, which can also aid in finding the center, but screws aren't necessarily in the center, so I try not to rely on screw locations if I'm drilling a large hole for a toggle bolt. I do a lot of mounting jobs which require drilling a 1/2" hole to insert a toggle bolt, and with a 1.25" inch wide metal stud, that leaves very little margin of error. Since I got my studball, I've never failed to find the center of a stud on the first try. And the rubber housing prevents leaving marks on the wall. Yes this is a bit overpriced, and I wish they were cheaper, but it's still worth it. I already bought a second one, and if I lose either I will buy more. These are great for wood or metal studs. Using a separate electronic studfinder (i.e. Franklin T9) first to locate the stud is a good idea and speeds up the process, and then I use the studball to confirm and to find the center. If you only need to occasionally find studs, and aren't doing this professionally, the stud ball by itself is all you need. Bottom line, buy it, you won't regret it. (only downside is I still haven't found a great way to store it so that it doesn't stick to other metal objects or my other magnets.. But this is true of most neodymium stud finder products. I'll probably eventually make some sort of protective foam sleeve for it, I wish it came with something or had a protective case available as an accessory)
Review: If Your Walls Are Plaster, You Need This. - Living in a 1915 house means my walls are basically *history class with a vengeance* — plaster, lath, mystery studs, you name it. Finding a stud used to feel like a paranormal investigation. Enter the Rack-A-Tiers Stud Ball. This little magnet hunts down the nails in the lath and leads you straight to the stud like it’s got X-ray vision. It outperformed my fancy electronic stud finder by a mile (even on “metal mode,” which mostly just lied to me). Simple. Brilliant. Highly recommended — unless you enjoy Swiss-cheesing your walls.

## Features

- Detect metal through drywall, ceramic tiling, plywood paneling, and other thick building materials.
- MAGNETIC – Stud Ball uses a rare earth magnet to detect metal through walls. This stud magnet never struggles to find the precise location of any metal frames, screws, or nails. The natural magnetic force locks on to any metal it finds.
- STRONG – The spherical shape of the Stud Ball Magnet produces a higher magnetic field, allowing it to accurately detect metal behind thick building materials. The round magnet also has less flux leakage, keeping its magnetism for a longer period.
- RELIABLE – Stop fiddling with battery-operated stud finders that can be faulty and prone to breaking. A magnet ball stud finder is always ready to use and has a consistent strength, meaning you can trust it is showing you the right spot to drill or cut every time.
- FAST - Find 40 or more studs in a wall with 5/8” drywall in less than a minute. Simply use the finger loop to move the Stud Ball across the wall and the magnetic screw finder will immediately stop at the exact location of any screws, plates, or frames. This is the fastest and most accurate drywall stud finder available.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can anyone explain the use of the word "pack" to mean 'single' in the english language?**
A: Short for package which can be 1 or many. If a number comes before it that means multiple.

**Q: What is the difference between basic and premium pack?**
A: Nothing, I bought it and it was just one magnet. I contacted seller and they said they have only ever sold one at a time.

**Q: How many come in a pack?**
A: Wow, they sure don’t make it very clear. I just one unit, and took about eight weeks to get it. Does work great though.

**Q: Can i use this to find joist under carpeted flooring?**
A: I have 3/4 inch drywall and it finds the studs really easily, but I don't have carpeting. Guess you should give it a try, can't hurt. If it finds the tacking on the carpeted side walls through your carpet thickness, it might find the joists too! Best answer I can give you.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If Your Walls Are Plaster, You Need This.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easily Finds Studs Where An Electronic Stud Finder Won't Work!
*by 2***D on June 19, 2026*

I have no idea what my walls are made out of. They are definitely not regular dry wall, nor are they plaster. They seem to be something like concrete that creates a gritty mess when I drill into it the wrong way. Electronic stud finders to not work on this mystery material (material is a mystery to me). I had better luck using a small neodymium magnet taped to the end of a thread to find the nails attaching my wall material to the studs underneath. This "Stud Ball" is basically just a larger, more powerful magnet that easily and accurately locates the studs. When passing over a nail with this magnet, it is a decisive, definite lock-on. Super easy to use! Get it if you have walls that confound the fancy electronic stud finders!
