The Labrador Handbook: Your Definitive Guide to Care and Training

Exellent, useable and realistic information for a new labrador owner
I have never had a dog before so I took the time to read this book cover to cover, as did my whole family. The information is straightforward, easy to understand, easy to implement and extremely helpful for a new puppy owner. Her writing style is entertaining and informative. I like how she warns you that it will chew everything in your house and then puts a cute puppy picture on the next page to make you almost forget what she just wrote.

This book has been so helpful in raising our Labrador puppy! I’ve ran into her blog several times and decided to buy her book and all the information has been so helpful to us in training, diet, care and more!

Covers Labradors through all their life stages from puppyhood to old age
This book offers guidance on health and general care as well as training. It has been exceedingly helpful during the early months our two Labrador pups. They are now 6 months old, and we will continue to refer to it as they grow.

Good read
This book is well written and covers a lot of information. A good resource for the Lab owner. I have a Labradane so I had to also get a book on Great Danes to combine the two breeds together. What a good combination for a family pet. Have a great day and may the LOVE of JESUS CHRIST richly bless you. Charles(NAHUM 1:7 / JOHN 3:16 KJV).

Very informative
Very helpful book. I knew nothing about Labs when I adopted my Lab puppy. Been quite overwhelmed with his behavior and the book was very helpful in letting me know he is normal, making me feel much better. Very good training tips.

Game changing book for new lab owners
Got our first labrador a few months ago- we had no idea what we’re doing - have read a lot of internet stuff and still struggled because of inconsistency. I think it’s best to stick to one style of approach and the strategies and methods in this book have really worked for us. Me and my wife both read it and it’s been a game changer. Lots of good specific ideas for how to get the basics nailed down and simple explanations of the science and rationale involved so that you can easily then apply the same principles to things not specifically covered.

Must read
I’m waiting for my new puppy in two weeks and keen to learn and revise how to teach my new pall. A big dog is a nightmare if basic training isn’t achieved. Well I found the first few chapters quite negative and off putting. I had little doubts about my choice. But keep with it as I did. Knowledge is power and knowing the bad things stands you in good stead to achieve what we all want. I well behaved dog that we can take anywhere and be a pleasure to be around. This book gives you warts and all and in the end I’m glad I read it. Two weeks to go and this book will be my guide over the coming 12 months

Get the Happy Puppy Handbook instead
Some useful information on buying a Lab, but most of this can easily be found online. Constantly refers the reader to the same author's Happy Puppy Handbook, which you should buy instead; it is a fantastically useful handbook for new dog owners. This is not a bad book, but there is no great need to buy it, even if like us your first puppy is going to be a Lab.

which would have been perfect if I hadn't got
It is a lovely book but I'm afraid most of the book is about choosing a Labrador, which would have been perfect if I hadn't got. A 2 year old lab already. I felt it was a book written about my dog. I have pippa mattinsons puppy book which was very infromative too!I thought it would have been more about training than choosing a Lab which is the only reason for giving 3 stars.

Easy to read and lots of clear direction. Very good book
Easy to read and lots of clear direction for training and developing the puppy and adult dog alike. One addition that I personally would have found useful would have been a clearer indication as to which age to start each training task with the puppy rather than which sort of order. However, the book has been very useful and informative and it's easy clear layout means that even the younger member of the family can read and understand some of the parts and be as involved as the main carer.
