Saved my wooden bannisters
I dreaded the thought of drilling holes into my wooden bannister when it was time to install gates on my stairs. I researched some DIY projects for building gate adaptors and then I found this item. For the price it was worth it for me to purchase the kit rather than try to build my own. I originally bought one for the top of my stairs to see how well it worked. Installation was super easy. It has a cut out in the top and bottom. You take a Velcro strap and thread it through the board around the bannister and through the velcro hook. I pulled the strap as tight as I could possibly get it. Even with the strap as tight as possible, slight movement of the board still occurs when the gate is used. The slight movement however does not stop the gate from functioning as it should. My gate still opens, closes and latches properly.Disclaimer: One of the reasons for the slight movement may be that I am unable to place the adaptor completely on the ground. I have molding around the foot of my bannisters so I had to place the adaptors about an inch or so off of the floor. So for those of you who can't place the adaptor directly on the floor this item is still effective. The item was so effective I bought another one for the bottom of my stairs when I had to install a gate there. I was slightly disappointed with one of the straps. I received two different versions of the strap. One was like my original model and a good quality. The 2nd was a different model and was of lesser quality. Both straps still held the piece of wood in place though. I bought the same gate for the bottom and top of my stairs and both work properly with the adaptor kit. I am so glad I don’t have to worry about finding a way to patch my bannister when I do remove the gates.

Worked Great on Our Banister
We tried some of the baby gates that are made for banisters and wall mounts, but for some reason the dry wall could not keep the screw and anchors in for the life of it. Which definitely is unsafe since our girl was starting to crawl and climb up. We had two Regalo 192” Adjustable Baby Gate that we’d originally put together for a gigantic square play area. We wanted to use the wall mounts from this gate to create a small gate that was “away” from the stairs. Finding this mount adaptor for the banister was the prefect solution! It was easy to screw eight into and it holds on the banister very firmly. And luckily, the wall mounts on this gate don’t pop out from the wall like the other gate gifted to us. So, THIS banister adaptor + adjustable baby gate = just the right top-stair baby gate I was looking for.

Good solution. Too loose, but fixable with Command Strips (at least for our situation).
I really appreciate this product. Tops of stairs are so tricky sometimes for baby gate installation! This made it possible for us to use the Cardinal Gates Stairway Special Gate, which was the only one we found that doesn't need a nearly 90-degree fit with both sides of the staircase to work. I swear, finding something for the top of our stairs was driving me nuts--ordering and returning things, conjuring possible hacks, etc. This was the missing piece that helped me solve the puzzle. The wood post is nicer than anything I could've made--sanded down, with smooth slots for the velcro, nicely painted, etc. I don't know what the plastic clips are for...they didn't do anything useful in my situation, so I gave up on them. Yes, it's a simple solution, but that's fine by me!On the down side, the board was still allowing wiggle even when strapped on as tight as I could get it and even when using the little foam pads included in the kit (hence the 4 stars--this was almost a game-ender). I fixed that problem, however, using Command Strips. Those things are awesome. We haven't had any problems or looseness even with a few violent test pulls/pushes. It's been up a couple months now.

Easy install and good quality.
This banister kit was so easy to install and works well. The velcro is super strong and once I got it tight on the banister, there was no moving the wooden board. I was able to screw into the the wood without any problems. Definitely worth the purchase to avoid drilling into banister. My husband thinks that it's even stronger than what our banister could provide on its own so that's a plus.In addition to the velcro being strong, there are clips to keep everything in place just as a secondary precaution. I highly suggest this one. It should fit even the largest of banisters. We gave a white banister and this basically blends in and doesn't draw too much attention.

Modifying the height is possible but could be easier with some simple product improvements
Works pretty well and saves me from drilling into my bannisters. It does slide a bit - not enough to be unsafe but enough such that occasionally the gate doesn't line up correctly and I need to realign it. I knew when I purchased it that I'd have to modify the height to work with my post. I did so by cutting out a portion from the middle (with two 45 degree angle cuts), then rejoining the remaining pieces with screws. I couldn't just cut one end off because then I would have lost the use of one of the ends where the Velcro runs through. The product could be improved by having more of those slots so that you can choose which one will work with your post and also shorten the length more easily and without losing the functionality. Would also be nice if this came in black as that is the color of my gate.

Exactly what I needed!
This adapter is exactly what I needed. My nieces have started to learn all about climbing the stairs. I needed a way to get the gate up so I don't have to worry about them getting too ambitious while I'm not looking. My stairs have a wood railing on one side and the other side is just a plain wall. The adapter was very easy to install on the railing and is very secure. All you do is slip the velcro through the slats in the wood and secure it to the banister. There is a little plastic clip that helps to keep the velcro from peeling up on the ends. It also includes a few small pads that adhere to the wood adapter - these pads help protect your banister. I leave my adapter on 24/7 even when my nieces aren't around. We also use it to keep our dog from going upstairs when we run errands..... she likes to sneak into the bedroom and sleep on the bed.
