The Nail

You always have to pay for the wrong you do
For those of us who like the down and outers who have learned their lessons, this is a good movie. At first, you think Joey didn't learn his lesson, but, turns out he did. He just couldn't forgive himself and found his salvation in helping a kid with a very bad father. Thought this was the typical movie. Story was pretty much predictable for me until the end when the story tellers panned in as the bad father beat his son senseless. The blood flying, eyes swollen shut, bruising, kid held limp and dead in fathers hands - all looked very real. Looked like he killed his own son and it brought me to tears just watching it. Sickening. Seen real life punches and this is portrayed very well. Good to see kid made it, then, twist at the end was a surprise. Kid triumphs. Joey pays his debt. Amazon brought a heart felt movie here. Worth the time.

Well Made Tale of Redemption and Hope
The Nail blends together a number of familiar threads and while it might not be all that original, it is a solid movie that draws you in and has a lot of positive elements. In other words, stories don’t always need to be unique, as a well told narrative can still work well, even if it is one we’ve seen many times before. In the case of The Nail, we have the redemption arc that drives the entire movie and that’s a common premise, but it is well developed and performed. I should note that while this movie does involve boxing as a central element, this is not a sports movie or underdog narrative in that sense. Joey has moved on from his days in the ring, but we do see the boxing world often, just don’t expect a traditional sports movie in this case. The movie deals with serious, often dark topics including a brutal domestic violence scene that is tough to watch. So while The Nail aims to inspire, the path it takes is a rough, down to earth one, not an idealized take. I think this is a rock solid movie that hits the usual marks for this kind of picture, but stands out thanks to good performances and a more believable narrative. If you’re a fan of well crafted dramas, redemption stories, or the glorious Tony Danza, check it out. Visit my site for a full review!

not all movies are fiction
I haven't spent so much time crying in a long time, this movie is what I have needed for over 30 years. that kid was me, hospitalized many time by both my father and mother, this movie brought back all those bad memories, and it felt good to be able to let all those bad emotions just flow out of me. thank you for making this, it has helped me more than I could ever express. I too had my "Joey" and he saved my life, this movie has in turned saved my soul.

Gritty
Not family friendly due to language and violence. An excellent movie about forgiveness and redemption, about an adult's ability to love a child who is not his own. Where there is love there is the possibility of redemption. We don't see enough of that positive role modeling in movies. But be advised that this movie is very gritty, and the scenes of violence are very graphic; you can feel the blows.I liked the views of the city and of the boxing club. It's all sets the appropriate tone for the movie. Tony Danza made me dislike his character so, good acting on his part. With the above caveats, I recommend the movie.

a good fool though
I saw Tony Luke in a couple of movies, Invinceable was one of them and he played a complete fool, a good fool though..... However. In the Nail. You can see that Tony gave it 100 percent and he was full of passion. The story is heart wrenching, very emotional and is so very real. It's one of those flicks where you feel like your right there with the cast. It sucks you in, in a good way. This is an under rated movie and Luke should have received an award for his performance. What more can I say.

The lead guy needs more acting lessons
The script was ok and the supporting cast was good. The lead guy was too weak in the role even when boxing. Heart-felt message to be sure but lacked that in the acting. The second star is for support cast.

The actor for Joey displayed a range of emotions
I loved this film. Didn't know what to expect but when I started watching it I couldn't stop. The continuity in some scenes were off(noticable) but I didn't mind. It was a good story with good actors and I like that it didn't tell you everything all at once it keeps you wondering what happened to Joey and then unfolds evenly at the right time.

not for me
I only got this movie because Tony Danza was in it. But way to much fighting. And they hardly show Tony. So getting rid of it.
