Insightful Review: HP Deskjet Ink Advantage Ultra 4286 Printer - A Comprehensive Evaluation
The media could not be loaded. I recently purchased the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage Ultra 4286 Printer, and I'd like to share my thoughts and experiences with this product. Firstly, I want to mention that the printer was delivered promptly by Amazon, and they provided a one-time password for secure delivery, which was commendable. When I opened the box, I noticed some areas were wet due to heavy precipitation during delivery, but thankfully, everything inside was intact and factory sealed. As a long-time user of HP printers, I decided to replace my 8-year-old HP Deskjet 3545 printer, which had cartridge recognition issues despite my troubleshooting efforts.I chose this printer because I needed a dual-band Wi-Fi printer, and this model was the only one officially supported by HP's website, as per my research. However, I must admit that the printer's design is not as compact as I had hoped. Finding a suitable spot for it at my residence proved challenging, and I had to position it precariously due to the location of the paper tray at the back. The printer also feels a bit bulky compared to my previous Deskjet models.Setting up the printer was straightforward, and it seamlessly linked with my HP Smart app account. However, I was disappointed to find that the printer's retro monochrome display only shows the number of prints and cartridge levels, lacking the advanced functionality of its predecessors. Nevertheless, the printer proved to be fast and efficient for my occasional home printing needs.I was pleasantly surprised by the scan speed, which was much faster than I anticipated, even at 300 dpi with the HP Smart app. The printer delivers on its advertised features, allowing for black and white and color copying and printing. However, I must note that the advanced features heavily rely on the HP Smart app, while basic functionalities like color and black-and-white copying can be done manually.Regarding AirPrint, I was provided with four standard presets for print quality: Black and White, Black and White - Draft, Color, and Color - Fine. The black and white preset delivers the standard black and white print quality one would expect. The black and white draft preset is a printer setting for quick and economical printing of black and white documents. It optimizes the printing process for speed and reduces ink usage, resulting in faster print speeds and lower ink consumption. However, the print quality may be slightly lower, with less emphasis on fine details and potentially lighter shades of black. This preset is useful for printing draft versions of documents, where print quality is not a primary concern, and saving ink and time is more important. The color preset produces color prints in full color, including various shades and hues. On the other hand, the color fine preset is designed for higher-quality print and accurate color reproduction. It provides enhanced capabilities to render colors with greater precision and detail, resulting in sharper and more vibrant prints. In the HP Smart app, you won't find the same presets as provided with AirPrint. Instead, the app offers presets like Best, Normal, and Draft, which are self-explanatory for one's printing purposes.I noticed a change from the 3545 printers, as this model lacks a dual-sided print feature. Instead, HP implemented a rear paper tray where you can manually flip the page to print on the other side. While it's not as convenient as an automated option, it still gets the job done. The color print speed is notably faster than its predecessor, especially with the color fine options. HP has made impressive improvements in this area. The print quality of black and color prints on the Best and Normal presets is splendid. The items included in the box were as advertised by the retailer. The retailer's title may have omitted the "DeskJet" name for better clarity, but I was delighted to find that they included 2 sets of cartridges as part of the offer, which exceeded my expectations.Additionally, one notable advantage of the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage Ultra 4286 Printer is its lightweight design. Compared to some bulkier models, this printer is relatively light, making it easier to carry and place in your desired location. This feature adds to the convenience and flexibility of setting up the printer in various spaces within your home or office.Overall, I find the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage Ultra 4286 Printer to be a suitable choice for my occasional home printing needs. However, it's important to note that some core design aspects and advanced functionality have been depreciated compared to its predecessor in the Deskjet series. The printer's compact size, as advertised, was a letdown for me, and I had to position it carefully due to the backside paper tray.I would recommend this printer to those who have similar home printing needs, whether occasional or slightly more frequent. However, if you're looking for a printer with more advanced features and are open to considering ink tank printers, which have affordable ink bottle prices within a feasible budget range, they might be a better option. In conclusion, while the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage Ultra 4286 Printer has its drawbacks in terms of design and some functionality, it serves its purpose well for home users with infrequent printing needs.

A decent good printer
This printer is good and works well.. best part about this printer is that the black carriage gives around 1300 and the colour gives around 700 which is really good for an inkjet printer . Other models maybe slightly cheaper but cost per page of printing will be way higher compared to this one. It also comes with 2 sets of cartridges (2 black and 2 colour) and the cost of the ink cartridges for this model printer seem to be way lower than other hp cartridges .Update - a small drawback I noticed, the printing speed is a little slow , not an issue if it’s just for home use. Still worth it .

Very bad wifi connectivity
Need to switch OFF and ON for every use to be recognized by the APP. Very buggy wifi connectivity. Also no duplex option. Print quality and speed is good.

Can buy for home use only
The only problem with this printer or any deskjet is it can't print lower border of page...so forget full page colour photo...Scanner is good....mobile app via wifi works fine... cartridge does last a quite long. Normal printing mode prints lighter colour as compared to best mode...just to save ink. Wifi connectivity is good.

Best choice
If u r looking for best printer with good brand called HP and also the printing cost and user-friendly then this is the right choice.. don't go by the printer initial cost just see the cartridge cost and how much pages that cartridge gives the print yeild .. comparing all the factors like printer price .. brand.. cartridge cost.. number of prints per cartridge and finally the printing cost per sheet.. This one printer stands in 1st rank without doubt .

Good printer, Complicated Installation!
After a day of fidgeting with the wifi settings and constantly getting disconnected, I was finally able to get the printer to work in USB mode. In this process, wasted 10 pages just to get it working. The printer comes with useless manuals, and expects you to print most of it. Recommend not using HP Smart - the software is a time waste.Build quality of printer is flimsy...can break easily...handle with care. I was used to my well built k209a.Out of the box, the printer is in wifi mode, and you end up wasting (printing) 1 page everytime the wifi direct password changes. It needs a wpa enabled router to work on lan.As the installation driver is no longer provided on CD, you need to download a 150~mb software from HP website - this enables USB direct printing. And you can disable wifi and internet printing. It also allows you to print and scan directly from Windows with bundled HP software (not HP Smart).Overall 4 star for the printer as it has plenty of features for the price point. But 2 stars for the installation and setup process.
