LEUCHTTURM1917 - Notebook Hardcover Medium A5-251 Numbered Pages for Writing and Journaling (Black, Dotted)

I've been using this journal over a year now, and really love it. It still looks awesome on the outside... and on the inside, well, there you'd find my private thoughts and artwork. I use this notebook exclusively with fountain pen inks... a variety of inks. Usually there's no bleed through. Occasionally there is. As an artist, my challenge is to make the bleed through situations into something beautiful. I find that to be a lot of fun... so am staying positive and not complaining. This is a great notebook for writing in. There's an index of several pages at the beginning, and the pages are numbered, so it is perfect for use as a bullet journal or writer's journal, or whatever you like. The pages seem kind of thin, but still good quality. I have other bullet journals with thicker pages. But it is what it is and either you like it for what it is or you don't. I would not hesitate to buy another journal like this one, when this is full. However - if I was to do it again, I wouldn't limit myself just to fountain pen ink in this journal. Probably there are other pens that would be better for this one, like the Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Pens which are bright and beautiful and will not bleed through. (I just tried them on my pen check page at the back of the notebook, and they are perfect for this thickness and quality of paper. The cover of my Leuchtturm 1917 is hardcover, and the color is pink... what they call berry. It is so pretty. I'm glad I bought this one. It comes with the elastic, as pictured, and there's a nice sturdy pocket on the inside back cover. I've found it very handy for smaller items I pick up during my travels. The endpapers are white... a sort of creamy white. Everything about this notebook journal speaks quality. I've used this as a travel journal, for recording quotes, and as a memoir journal, using a prompt book. I'm not using it for my daily observations of life, though it could be that type of journal if need be. I do a lot of ink painting in this journal. I use the same inks I put into my fountain pens - Noodlers Inks in a variety of colors, and De Atramentis® Document Ink . I've also used the Pilot Varsity Disposable Fountain Pens in this journal. It does well with all, but as you can imagine, if I put on the ink too thickly there's that risk of bleed through... so I've learned how much to use, and how much I can get away with layering it before the ink goes through the paper. It is a learning process. Recently I used a pen with a medium nib, and that bled through. Not good... and usually I use the extra-fine nibs which are better for preventing bleed through. Not a problem though - I turned the page and used the bleed-through page to create a bit of art using fountain pen ink applied by water brushes. I like the way it turned out even with the bleed through - it became part of the art. So, if you're looking for a good quality notebook with thin paper... numbered, with an index and pocket, this could be the right journal for you. I recommend it. I like all the colors, especially the berry pink which is so, so pretty. No complaints from me.

I usually don't write reviews on Amazon, but I felt compelled to do so for this product. I have been a committed journal-er for many years, and I am always on the crusade for the "perfect journal" - something that satisfies every criterion. The Pros: - Nice, smooth covers, bound very well, book opens nicely - a three-page Table of Contents, which is genius for people taking notes, trying to organize information, or keeping track of dates, etc. - the pages start on page one, a clean, flat page (as opposed to a first page being partially glued to the cover or another page, making it useless!) - numbered pages (love it!) - cream pages, thick enough to handle a fine-point sharpie or quality gel-tipped pen, as well as regular ballpoints - a dotted grid instead of lines or a graph. This, of course, was the selling point for me. Often I try writing in blank journals to "loosen up a little" and be more creative, but it usually just ends up with me being frustrated because I can't write clearly in a straight line and the pages turns into chaos. Writing in between dots (perfectly spaced - not hideously wide, double-spaced/wide ruled) becomes fluid and relaxed, and the finished product (a page filled with writing) looks clean and without any lines at all! - a pocket in the back of the book to store papers, notes, letters, anything your heart desires - an elastic strap to keep everything all together (keeps the book from flying around and getting destroyed in your bag, etc. and helps keep all loose papers, etc. from falling out) - the book comes with labels - three for the front cover, and three for the spine. This is an amazing idea, especially if you're trying to organize notes or journals. The labels stick very well and don't fall off if you're careful to stick them on correctly. - the book itself is the perfect size - large enough to write a substantial amount on each page and not have to struggle to fit things in it, but small enough to toss in a backpack or even (as I do sometimes) in my medium-sized handbag. Semi-cons: - I could do without the perforated pages. They are useful for a lot of people, but for me, I'd rather not tear any pages out of a nice notebook like this. But this is not necessarily a "con", just a personal preference. I have bought two of these journals so far, and absolutely intend to buy more (I might even stock up!). I would definitely recommend this product. :)

I use this as my bullet journal! I wanted to dotted pages opposed to the square ones. The moleskine has a dotted journal but it's a soft cover one and I found that the softcover scratched easily. I love this journal so much! The pages are not completely bleeding proof. The ink won't go to the next page(from experience w markers n fine liners) but will be visible on the other side of the paper. The pages are thin yet can hold a lot of ink/water. I painted a quick wash of watercolors and it did not tear. I mean I only used one layer of paint and very little water but still! This is a bit larger than the moleskine ones and I like that. I also love the pocket, even though I rarely use it. I like the fact that it has a built in index and page number. Also, it comes with two ribbons/page markers. I rarely use them. Annoying this is that when you add a paperclip or mini clothespin, the journal won't close properly and show a bump where the clip is. The cover is hard and good quality. There are minor scratches but it is not big or very noticeable. I know that this is more expensive than a moleskine, but for my bullet journal needs, I wanted a good quality journal with a lot of nice paper. The pages are not pure white but is a more off white color

This is by far the BEST notebook i've ever used in my life. It's made me a loyal Leuchttrum buyer from the second i got it till now. I've had this notebook for a little over a year and batter it to all hell. It looks fine is holding up perfectly. I love that the paper isn't stark white and the dots are perfect for bullet journaling and just writing. The binding is very sturdy, i haven't had any pages fall out and I love that the pages are pre-numbered. The pocket in the back is sturdy and the best in any notebook on the market. Though this is by far the best notebook i've used, it does have its problems. If you are using pigma microns, it doesn't bleed at all, just ghosts. BUT if you're using any Permanent and not archival pens it will bleed like a mother-----. It sucks but i prefer pigmas so it's not that big of a deal to me. I mentioned the ghosting earlier and yeah, thats a thing. Since the pages are very thin you can see whats on the other pages through the sheets of paper and its not THAT bad but if thats a deal breaker to you I'd take it into account. TL;DR Great notebook, sturdy, classy, pulling a Mary Poppins by being practically perfect in every way. BUT there is a lot of bleeding with certain pens and enough ghosting to fill a haunted house.

I have three notebooks similar to this. I have used Moleskin notebooks for years without realizing how inconsistent their paper is. I recently began using a fountain pen, and the ink bleeds through paper on the Moleskine so bad that I had to write on every other page to be readable. A comparable Moleskine is a little cheaper than the Leuchtturm 1917. I bought a similar-looking Rhodia Webnotebook last spring when I bought a fountain pen. Of the three, the Rhodia is the best. The paper is excellent and the cover is much nicer than either of the other two. it has a padded feel and it overhangs the pages a little. It is also the most expensive. I like this notebook. It is a nice mix of price and features. The paper isn't the same quality as the Rhodia, however, it does not bleed and is better than the Moleskine. It is not too thick, so the ink shows through faintly from the other side, but enough to prevent using both sides of the paper. The binding is more like a Moleskine, and it stops right at the edge of the page. The 1917 also devotes the first three pages to a blank table of contents to make it easy to find important pages. The pages have a discreet page number and the last few pages are perforated to make it easy to tear out a page. And, of course there is a small pocket in the back, and a ribbon marker. I like the dots format, a lot. They are prominent enough to be seen, but not prominent enough to intrude. I can use them as guideline for writing. I can ignore them and sketch or draw. I can use them as graph paper. So, I have a journal that's neat and orderly, yet from a few feet away, it looks like the pages were blank before I wrote on them. I use it at work, in an office setting, as a "work journal." Nearly everything goes in it. Meeting notes, of course; thoughts jotted down on the fly; calculations, etc. I would definitely buy this again. EDIT: The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is that I think the Rhodia is a better quality notebook. If I were to give them both 5 stars,it would be misleading.

If you are anything like me, you like to keep lists and extensive notes. I can't get through my workday without putting pen to paper for several pages. Because I do so much writing, I also happen to love fountain pens, because they are both fun to write with and go super easy on your hands. All of these elements add up to me needing a solid notebook with high-quality paper that can handle the fountain pen ink and note bleed. Enter the Leuchturmm 1917 notebook. This has been my notebook of choice for about 3 years, and I have fille several of them up, always choosing to get another. Higher quality paper than moleskin, better build than other brands like Field Notes or Rhodia. It really is the ideal, classic black notebook. It has a small folder on the back cover for keeping things in, and two string bookmarks to mark multiple places. This comes in handy if you are jumping back and forth between current and past notes to compare thing. I love it. It also comes with high-quality stickers for labeling and archiving your notebook once it's filled. I find this useful, as I keep all of my old notebooks labeled and organized in case I need to return to them for reference. All in all, this is a very well made product, especially for fountain pen users, and well worth the price they charge for it.

I, like many others, intend to use this notebook for bullet journaling. I'm fairly new to this idea and looked at this notebook along with several others. I mean I did my homework - checked out blogs, videos, pictures and pins about the best journals. I ultimately settled on this journal after seeing it recommended on several sites, and I'm not at all disappointed with my purchase. I originally wanted the purple colorway, but this berry color was at a better price point during the time of my purchase. Thankfully, it's not obnoxiously pink! The color is pretty true to the picture, vibrant and fun. The pages are thinner than expected. But, when using a Micron 01 pen, the bleed through is minimal and unobtrusive in my opinion. My intern, who actually introduced me to this style of journaling, suggested a page for pen tests. I plan to include such a page in my journal and will update my review with recommendations once I've tried a few pen and highlighter options. The size (5.75 x 8.25) is just small enough to fit into my small cross body satchel without adding bulk or too much weight. I feared that the hard cover would make this notebook heavy, but so far there's no worries there. Finally, I appreciate the built-in index, page numbers, and back pocket that this notebook includes. Overall, I'm pleased and would highly recommend this notebook.

I enjoy drawing Zen doodle type patterns and Celtic knots. The dots on the pages looked like they would be perfect for this and they are. The structure of the book is very similar to the Moleskine notebooks. The pages of this book are about 3/4 inch wider than the comparably sized Moleskine. The paper used the the pages is very smooth and quite thin. There are 249 numbered pages and the Leuchtturm notebook, including covers, is only 0.8 inches thick. The paper feels strong. Even though the pages are thin, I don't see a lot of the images on the page beneath. I have only been drawing on one side of the pages, but both only because it is my preference, not a necessity. I've used gels and felt-tip pens and have not had any trouble with the inks bleeding through. The dots on the pages are easily visible, but don't detract from the sketches because the dots are tiny. I'm not sure if the dots are black or dark grey because they are too small for me to tell for certain. There are two ribbons for marking locations in the book. The Table of Contents at the front of the book is also available and each page is numbered in the lower, outer corner of the page. An elastic band is anchored to the back cover and easily stretches around the front to secure the pages closes. I've found that I enjoy using these pages for other drawings besides just the graphic shapes. Pens flow smoothly across the surface, but the paper takes pencil as well. This red colored notebook shipped from the U.K. so it took almost two weeks to get to me. It might be something to keep in mind if needed quickly. I believe some of the other colors were available more quickly. For me, it was worth the wait. I'll just need to plan ahead as this book is filled. Update 6/22/2016: Added scanned image from page. You can tell from the page number that I labelled this up side down. The scan shows the dots and how fine they are.

Le papier est solide, des pages permettant de démarrer son BUJO y sont clairement organisées. Les pages sont numérotées et les pointillés visibles et discrets à la fois. Et la couleur est juste sublime, juste ce qu'il faut pour co-créer ma vision d'une relation de couple 6 étoiles. Tout en y calant ma semaine d’actions prioritaires, le tracking mensuel de mes choix et nouveaux rituels, les points clés des lectures de livres que je lisais, les citations qui challengent le mental et la revue de la vision que j’ai pour ma vie, j'ai fait 4 mois avec le premier journal LEUCHTTURM1917. C’est à mes yeux le meilleur investissement pour se transformer et se réinventer avec confiance et en toute introspection. Cette liberté de personnaliser le contenu de son BUJO est unique. Et puis, écrire sur un bel objet vous fait voir la vie du beau côté. Avec optimisme, un jour à la fois. Parce que votre âme le vaut bien.

I love everything about these Leuchtturm1917 journals, especially the dot grid pages, but I'd have to say that this one was not my favorite color I've ordered. It looks a bit more greeny/browny than the picture, which looks a bit more grey.

Bullet journal che vale assolutamente il prezzo. Davvero bello, linee pulite e senza scritte in copertina (cosa che a me non piace). Ha le pagine gialline e del giusto spessore. La penna può vedersi dietro la pagina se non si ha un tratto leggero, uguale per i pennarelli, ma per me non è un problema. Io sto concludendo il mio bullet journal iniziato a gennaio e a fine dicembre avrò sicuramente ancora pagine vuote rimaste.

Came well packed by the seller. The notebook has been safe despite a dent on the packaging. Highly recommend!
