I Eat Poop.: A Dung Beetle Story

This is my favorite book to read to my kids out of the 100’s of books we have. I just absolutely love this book. It’s cute/silly, but also teaches a several great lessons.

The book is funny and has a good message. And there are so many little details in the artwork! I imagine this book could be a springboard for so many different things--learning about bugs, discussing different diets (e.g. vegan, vegetarian, kosher) and dietary needs/restrictions (e.g. food allergies), having conversations about differences in general (e.g. LGBT+ acceptance, religious beliefs, race & ethnicity), and so on.Overall an excellent book!

What a funny, good book with a good lesson. We love it!!

My kid is really into beetles, specifically dung beetles. I’ve learned more about dung beetles than any one human should without an entomology degree so I was hesitant about buying another bug book. But this book is so beautifully illustrated and well written, that we could read about Dougie the Dung Beetle 15 times in a row and I forget I’m reading about poop sandwiches. It still has the ‘bug’ factor that my kid loves, and has started some great conversations about how to interact with other kids. If you are on the fence too, I implore you to hit ‘buy,’ especially if you have kids in school. The world would be a kinder place if there were more Dougies in it.

I laughed so hard I had an asthma attack. However, it was also informative while additionally (and subtly) addressing peer pressure and friendship. This is a must-have for every kid's bookshelf.
