Beware of multizoning claims
Good basic little bluray player. Some literature had claimed this model was multi-zoned and was purchased under this assumption (which it is not)

Works out of the box
I purchased this to replace an aged Samsung bluray player. It was easy to set up and works well with both dvd and bluray discs. I have not bothered setting up WiFi as I have all the apps I need on the TV. I'm still stunned at how small it is and the quality of movie play back. I'm so impressed I'm ordering another one for my craft room

Brilliant device
My Sony bluray stopped working after many years so I needed a new one, I didn't want to spend a fortune as I mostly stream movies, but as I have an extensive range of blurays and the picture and sound quality is still far superior from bluray, I purchased this model. It's much smaller and lighter than the old one and even plays a few discs that the old one didn't, also some discs that used to freeze or jump and I thought must be faulty when playing on the old model actually work perfectly on this one, which was a very pleasant surprise. Overall a great purchase.

Good basic BD player. 1st lasted 26months. 2nd just started using
Bought first one in December 2017 for £74, second in February 2020 for £79 - excluding delivery charges - both directly from Amazon; they packed both carefully in outer boxes so arrived intact. ADDENDUM, dropping 1 star. First player ran for only 12 days after cleaning disc used. Then wouldn't even recognise the cleaning disc. Second player seems fine, hope to get longer from it. First player stopped recognising discs at all after 26 months, I feared the worst. I rechecked ratings for budget players, two years on: this one still rated highly so I bought another. I also bought an: Allsop CleanDR Laser Lens Cleaner for Blu-Ray/XBOX 2017/18 Condition: New Sold by: Fulfillment Express Fulfilled by Amazon £17.48, ex delivery charges. The rule is DON'T USE DVD CLEANERS IN A BLURAY, but I figured I would try to 'resurrect' my first player - one cleaning cycle and almost like new; occasionally have to open/close drawer when it says 'no disc', but it's working again! Weird thing, has zero clearance brushes and it works! Also I had to reset to PCM to get sound; I factory reset when it was playing up. So, spare player now in case it happens again. NOW MY ONLY PLAYER. I don't have broadband so cannot comment on the 'Smart' features. As far as I can tell, you shouldn't expect much for less than £100; digital audio out is coaxial not optical; not universally available on soundbars. Significant irritations are: - the Lilliputian remote; so many times I have pressed the Netflix button instead of fast forward, or favourite instead of rewind; but not too power hungry, I use nimh aaas: they need charging every 4-6 weeks; - no zoom to read inserts properly; - maybe because I cannot do a firmware update, it does not always remember where I was on Blu-ray discs, but DVDs seem fine. NB the 2020 player has a later Software version so hopefully fixed. RE Software Update. I have tried downloading onto a USB stick at the library, but the player didn't recognise it, so factory software only. I followed the instructions to the letter: no good. Initially I found the extra flap at the front irritating. However, it does a good job keeping the disc drawer clean. I also use a THIN microfibre cloth as a general dust cover, does not overheat the unit - external PSU and no vents. A good starter unit for HDTV or 1080HD. Reliable if not feature laden. Not the cheapest, but worth the extra I think.

I have bought both the BDP 1700 and BDP 3700 and can categorically say they are both great blue ray players and are a credit to the quality of Sony. The player is quiet and loads discs quickly and efficiently. The interface is clean and simple to use and works well with the remote. The main Apps include Amazon, Netflix, BBCiplayer and Sonys own App which allows you to play certain ps3 games. On the BDP 3700 the wifi works well and connected without any issues. There are better ( and far more expensive) players out there, but for a standard smart blue ray player which is capable of Hi Definition 1180p then this is a fantastic buy. Both the BDP 1700 and BDP 3700 have DVD upscaling which means the player improves the quality of your standard definition dvds I’ve read reviews saying this blu ray player does not have an AMAZON APP. Both of my players do, I have provided a photo to assure you it does.
