Dreadful Translation
I couldn’t get past the second chapter because the translation was so bad. It seems like somebody ran it through an online translator and made a Kindle book out of it. Don’t waste your money on this edition.EDIT:I thought I should give a couple of examples of the translations that inspired my displeasure with this particular version. There's this from Chapter 2:"'Impossible!' said Meg Giry. 'Six months ago, she used to sing like a CROCK! But do let us get by means of, my dear, depend,' continues the brat, with a saucy curtsey. 'We are going to inquire after a negative man who became discovered hanging by means of the neck.'"Yeah...that's rough to say the least. Another from the same chapter:"On the primary landing, Sorelli ran towards the Comte de Chagny, who changed into arising-stairs."I don't speak French (hence why I bought an English translation), so I can't look at the original text and figure out if there's some sort of idiom being employed here. Without that knowledge, we're forced to accept that the Vicomte has somehow managed to transform himself into an escalator.I could go on and on and I only made it through two chapters. In the end, it reads like a badly translated B-movie script. It's simply not readable. I sure wish I could get my money back on this one.
