Product Description In WITH SIX YOU GET EGGROLL, Abby McClure, a widow with three sons, and Jake Iverson, a widower with a teen-age daughter, begin dating and eventually decide to get married. But they're not prepared for the hostile reactions from their children, who are not very excited about the new union between the two families. .com After her long and wholesome run as America's Sweetheart, Doris Day quit movies with this well-scrubbed picture. With Six You Get Eggroll--oof, what a title--caught the wave of blended-family comedies, coming just after Yours, Mine and Ours and just before TV's The Brady Bunch. Doris has three sons, and new beau Brian Keith has an 18-year-old daughter (the still-baby-faced Barbara Hershey). It's family-friendly sitcom stuff, with both Day and Keith doing their comfortable, patented thing; when the two of them are onscreen together it's like watching a couple of old sweaters mate. This one is straight formula for fans only, although connoisseurs of camp will enjoy the whiff of Aquarius in the otherwise square proceedings (it was 1968, after all) when Doris goes to a nightclub where the Grass Roots are playing. There's also a hippie gang (featuring Jamie Farr and William Christopher, before M*A*S*H) with ponchos and love beads. The times they were a-changin', and kudos to Day for bowing out gracefully. --Robert Horton

Great Movie but bad audio-Buyer Beware
I purchased this DVD to watch. Picture quality was great but the audio through out the movie kept garbling the talking. Sometimes it sounded like static or scratchy sound. Since it is been “opened” once you hit play it can’t be returned. So BUYER BEWARE!

Still holds up: fun, sweet, classic
Okay... so this is very dated. But that’s a huge part of the charm. Spend some time as Doris Day and Brian Keith fall in love and figure out how to blend their families. This dates back to those days when families were finally blending in film (this is through death, not yet venturing into divorce). From this and Yours, Mine, & Ours we’d get The Brady Bunch. But here we are... fresh adventure. This film has a stellar cast (including at-the-time unknown Jamie Farr and William Christopher). The writing is charming. The story sweet and funny. Okay, yea, there is a major hoaky going on here, but again, this is prime for its timeframe. So sit back, enjoy, and have fun. We love this film and will enjoy more and more...

This "Eggroll" is Stuffed with Laughs!
"With Six You get Eggroll" bowed in the nation's theatres in August of 1968. It quickly became a popular success at the box-office thanks, in large part, to the enduring popularity of the film's star, Doris Day. Although some critics compared it, unfairly, to another comedy success, "Yours Mine, and Ours", "Eggroll" can more than stand on it's own merits. The story about a widow with three children who falls in love with a widower with one daughter, is not new or original. However, thanks to a charming script, smooth direction by Howard Morris and the cast headed by Day and Brian Keith, who have a great onscreen chemistry, it's a delight. By the film's conclusion, audiences have shed a few tears and had more than a few laughs.Doris Day plays the 40ish widow with charm, sex appeal, and a great deal of warmth. She is completely convincing and it's in her small touches that she especially proves her mettle as one of the most natural screen actresses ever. Keith is manly and real, and the supporting cast which includes Pat Carroll, Alice Ghostley, George Carlin, Barbara Hershey, Jamie Farr, and the popular rock group, The Grass Roots, lend credible support. While the film, the first production of the CBS film wing, may betray it's television roots, seeming at times like a pilot for a sitcom, it is ultimately a fine working of a winning formula. This was Day's cinema swan song, after two decades of enormous popularity, and it's a film that none of the participants need feel anything but pride in.

DORIS RULES!
A fairly amusing little film about the adjustments families have to make when a new member enters the clan (in this case, the father figure).Filmed in 1968,it has dated quite well (the overage hippies at the end of the movie notwithstanding!)and Doris Day looks georgeous, she just got better looking with age.Sadly, this was the last movie she made before her tv series and then retirement.Brian Keith is excellent as the new man in the family trying to fit in,almost like a good humoured, domestic John Wayne! So,by no means essential viewing but a pleasing way to pass 90 minutes and worth it to see Doris Day at her beautiful best.

Sparkling Doris Day Comedy
Doris Day's final film was this delightful 1968 comedy that co-starred Brian Keith. It's comedic theme is somewhat similar to Lucille Ball's "Your, Mine and Ours", and for this viewer was equally as enjoyable. For fans of the charming and effervesent Doris Day this is a must-see film. One only wishes Miss Day had continued making pictures after this one, but we are indeed fortunate to have over three dozen of her films available for continued viewing pleasure.

A very funny and sweet movie
Love Doris Day, and love when she's funny, beautiful and sweet all at the same time - which she is here! This movie is really great and funny, and what a chaos! The picture and sound is good and the children hating each other just makes it even more hilarious

Very funny
I enjoyed this film a lot. A bit farcical but funny all the same. Doris Day should have made more films. A pity she 'retired' so early in her acting career.
