It is helpful if your body needs it
My pulmonologist mentioned trying one of these due to my over-reactive production of mucous as a result of getting any respiratory virus (bad colds). My mucous production can be so bad that I have coughing fits every few minutes for a month. I also have asthma, which always gives me concern. I do everything I can for my lung health. I read reviews where people said it was wonderful, and others who said it did nothing. I'll explain why I think it is a helpful tool for me. Since I will cough and cough and cough for several minutes, eventually standing over the toilet with dry heaves, I became weary of the effort I had to use to get to the place of a productive cough. It took a lot of coughing to break it all up enough so that I could get it out. I would cough so much that at times I was unable to muster up a cough...just making a strange howl. Everything got so abused! Today I got this flutter valve and carefully read the directions. It came with 2 size ball bearings, and I found the larger one worked best for me. I could feel the vibration in my throat, lungs, and even stomach. I did it multiple times, then I felt a cough. It was a productive cough! So, my first impression is that it reduces some of the wasteful coughing, and it allows you to cough more productively. I don't know how frequently I'll need to use this, or if I will be able to keep it close by to use it enough in a manner where it will make a big difference...but if you are desperate for some coughing help, I think this is surely worth the money. I do recommend trying it. This is my honest opinion, and I am not being paid. LOL

A lifesaver
I have a lot of scar tissue in my lungs and bronchiectasis (stretched out bronchials) so I have trouble clearing my lungs. This helps so much with loosening mucous so I can cough it out. It’s also great at helping clear the gunk in your throat if you have post nasal drip. I’ve used it for a year and it still looks new, so it holds up well to daily use. Easy to disassemble and clean, and the instructions are clear.

This thing really works!
First off, I've got COPD and am constantly TRYING to rid myself of mucous in my lungs. The mucous takes up space and that space could be put to better use doing the oxygen-in-and-carbon-dioxide-out routine!Exhaling through the flutter valve interrupts the process, breaking it into several small pieces. It vibrates about 7 - 10 pulses per second- that's an educated guess- anyway, with practice the low-frequency pulses (in my case) seem to liquefy the mucous and makes it easier to get the phlegm up and out.I'm sure the "visual" is a bit gross but the first time I used it, I managed to get AT LEAST double the phlegm production! Subsequent treatments didn't produce the same dramatic results but there's no doubt it's an improvement over my usual deep breathing exercises.I didn't give it 4 stars because I think it's overpriced. If I buy another one I'll go with the $20 lung flute / flutter valve.I was really impressed that it did exactly what it was advertised to do - get some of that deep, thick mucous (phlegm) out.I didn't know until I did a little bit of studying that phlegm should be on the "watery" side and this device does SOMETHING to achieve that..It does take a bit of trial, error, and PRACTICE! I can definitely feel it deep in my lungs when I get it right.I use it when I'm doing an albuterol nebulizer- the nebulizer and flutter valve really complement one another! It works stand-alone as well when I start hearing rattles and wheeze. 3 or 4 exhales through the flutter valve almost always produces one or two expectorates (spits).Except for price, I strongly recommend this for any congestive chest problems like emphysema, asthma, bronchitis, or just getting over a chest cold. One other thing: I take guaifenesin- the generic form of Mucosin and WITHOUT the DM (Dextromethorphan HBr). It does something that makes the secretions more "watery".

doesn't flutter well
I bought this product to help remove mucus from my lungs. I have used another type for 6 months and it needs to be replaced. I thought this product had an adjustable pressure. I do not find it. I have only started using this product so I will reserve final judgement until later. Hopefully, I will learn how to use it better and it will suffice until I find one better.

Helpful for bronchitis
Being a physician I was familiar with these kinds of devices for many years. I have asthma and often find myself doing pursed-lip breathing to try to create PEEP (positive end-expiratory pressure) to relieve wheezing and shortness of breath, and that sticky feeling I get in my lungs during allergy season or viral infections. I recalled the flutter valve devices and checked online to try to get one. I was pleased to see that so many are now available. The one I chose was excellent and I think superior to the old ones I was familiar with though never tried myself. It is more than just a flutter valve, has a metal weighted ball that creates intermittent resistance to expiration. The increased pressure in the bronchial tubes helps stop the “collapse” and obstruction, and loosens any secretions there. It gives immediate relief. This works wonderfully in conjunction with inhaled bronchodilators and other meds for asthma/bronchitis. Glad I have it now.

It basically feels like a lung vibrator that breaks up the stuff that sticks to your lungs
It takes a little while to get the angle right but once you do, holy moley does it work. As someone who has lots of lung issues, it really helped break stuff off and helps you actually cough it up. Better than any expectorant medication by far. It has the weirdest feeling when you use it. It feels like someone put a vibrator in my lungs. I recommend getting the one with most metal balls. Start off with the smallest and work your way up. Especially if your lungs aren't very strong or you can't expand your lungs 100%. I use this for 6-10 breaths before using my meds in my nebulizer and it makes the meds work so much better so much faster. This is especially important for anyone who has ever had covid, no matter how mild the symptoms were. Excellent for vapers and smokers too because it helps restore your lung capacity.
