We have the Waste King L-8000 disposal and this is the first replacement drain cover we've gotten. I was a little nervous about the purchase because I'd seen some people complaining about it not fitting their disposal but it fit perfectly. Lots of negative reviews with comments about food not going down and this is true, unless I push it through, esp with smaller pieces. But I don't really have an issue with it as this feature also prevents silverware and other undesirable items from going down accidentally. Some have complained that it won't drain fast enough to keep up with their sink, my sink puts out a high volume of water and I do not have this problem at all. What I typically do is to turn on the water, put the stuff in and either push it down or pull the cover off for a moment, rinse whatever it is down, then replace the cover and turn on the disposal. The fact that the baffles fit tightly together is the thing that minimizes the noise coming from the disposal and with the splash guard on it is very quiet, people watching TV in the room can still hear it. After 3 years the splash guard that originally came with the disposal was completely toast and I threw it away. I had more issues with the original splash guard than I'm having with this one, very pleased with the new one. The original splash guard, for whatever reason had a terrible problem with the ground up food getting caught between the metal ring on the sink and the splash guard, so bad that if I did not remember to pull the splash guard out and rinse it after every disposal session sometimes the food would spoil and we'd get unpleasant odors until I cleaned it out. With the replacement splash guard I am not having these issues. I read the reviews about the guard not lasting very long so I bought two but so far no problems at all. The only negative I've encountered is the stopper itself - it's a tight fit and I've had issues getting it to completely prevent water from draining, I typically have to fiddle with it and it takes more than one try if I want the sink to hold water for say, half an hour or more.

Who knew you were supposed to change the splash guard in your sink every few months? Well, I didn't, but when I read it on the web (thank you, Buzzfeed newsletter for grownups) and then pulled mine out - for the first time, after living in my house for six years - I thought I must have had llamas living in my disposal. The upper side was so-so - ok, maybe a little grey-ish - the bottom side had clearly been used by llamas to spit on and never, ever wipe clean. Ever. My house was permanently contaminated by seeing this. That toxic waste splash guard had to go, go, go. And, who knew you had to make sure you had the right model splash guard? Well, I didn't know that either, so I bought the generic one-size-fits-most at the hardware store to replace the toxic one. The generic one didn't "really" fit. That's a big mistake. Don't do it, you'll never be happy (because your husband will point out daily how the splash guard doesn't guard and the stopper doesn't stop and why did you pull out the old one and what is all this about llamas and toxic waste and make you feel like an idiot. You will end up fishing the toxic one out of the trash with a coat hanger and shoving it in your husband's face. Then no one is happy and you still have a problem). You MUST match the guard/stopper to the disposal brand. And you MUST replace it regularly (or just NEVER EVER LOOK at the sink stopper, because you'll be so sorry when you see what your disposal spits backatcha, it's SO GROSS). THIS replacement FITS for this disposal. Sign up for buying it again every six months or so, because otherwise, your disposal will spit like a llama. I should note that it is so sturdy, water is slow to pass through - it's a bit damming, so to speak. Whatever - I'm just happy the damn thing (sorry about the pun) is clean, and fits my disposal's drain, without calling in a professional.

A while ago, I had thrown away our garbage disposal stopper because it had gotten way too gross. We had gone without it for a long while and every time I ran the disposal, water and food would spew from the sink into the air in the sink. Also, we had a spoon fall into the disposal and we did not find out until we turned it on. I decided to buy this garbage disposal stopper for my Waste King disposal. It slips in just fine and does an excellent job keeping the disposal water and food from spewing out now. Water goes down just fine. Food waste may need some nudging to fall between the plastic. I had been worried, it might now fit, but it does fit fine and has not fallen down into the disposal either. Very happy with it.

I almost didn't buy this because of the negative reviews I read, but as I was desperate need of a new splash guard I decided to go for it. Now after using it for almost a month I have to wonder if those who gave a bad review actually used a brand new Waste King disposal or are using one that was already installed in their homes and the splash guard was older and wearing down. My reason being that if they had they would have realized that the "tight" fit and "food won't easily go through" is how the original guard fit and work, and is what you want! I replaced my older garbage disposal with a Waste King 8000 over 5 years ago. Recently I started noticing that sometimes I would run the disposal and my guard would actually pop out, spraying nasty, chunky water all over! One time it fell in while the disposal was running! So that tight snug fit, Yes it is Perfect! Second, items were also starting to to fall through the older splash guard. Have you ever cut up a spoon or cleaned up a ground shot glass because they fell into your disposal and you didn't see them? I have!! And I am please to say that since replacing with this new guard my silverware and shot glasses are not slipping through! So yes, sometimes the thicker, larger pieces of food need a little help being pushed through, but again that is how the original work and it's worth it knowing that that stuff that shouldn't go through the guard isn't accidentally getting ground up. Which isn't that the whole purpose of having the guard in the first place, to "guard". I give this 5 stars because it works just like the original that came with the disposal when we bought it years ago.

We needed a stopper for the disposer, and this product did the job. Fit was great and easy to clean. Yes, this is a product that does the job. Stopes water from splashing in the sink. Great product.

Actually it does it's job fantastic. All that chewed up stuff that had been composting in the back of my vegetable drawer doesn't get flung back up in my face when I turn it on. But there is a difference in this and the one I had before. The flaps are a little stiffer and the hole in the center seem a little smaller. That may be why I don't have to make sure my mouth is closed when I turn on the disposal like I used to do. But it does make it harder to get things to go down in the disposal. I usually put a bunch of stuff in the sink and then grind it all at one time to save water. But if you do run water in that sink, it won't let it drain down. But that in itself is really saving water for when you do get around to grinding up your stuff. It just makes my sink look worse that it usually does. Then I have to work a bit harder to get things to go down when it is time to dispose. But still a great product but I had to give it three starts for 'OK.'

I had previously bought similar replacements from other brands and had been disappointed by their flimsy quality. This one is just the opposite! It works perfectly with a Waste King Legend model 1001. The rubber is thick enough, well built, and there is a good friction when inserting so it sits properly in place once inserted at its proper location. It may look just a tiny bit too wide when you start inserting it but this is on purpose! Once it is is at it's proper depth location it fits wonderfully. I am impressed with the high quality of the product for a reasonable price. I will definitely buy more when needed and highly recommend this product!
