How does the WA-47jr sound compared to modern condenser microphones?

The WA-47jr is voiced with a vintage-leaning character: big low end, rich midrange depth, and a smooth, natural top end. Compared to many modern condensers that emphasize brightness, it delivers a fuller, classic tone that sits naturally in a mix.

What do the three polar patterns do?

Cardioid focuses on the source while minimizing room sound. Omni captures a natural room response. Figure-8 captures front and back while rejecting sides, ideal for duets and stereo. These options provide real studio flexibility.

When should I use the pad and high-pass filter?

Use the -10 dB pad when recording loud sources like drums, guitar cabinets, or powerful vocals to prevent overload. Engage the 70 Hz high-pass filter to reduce rumble, proximity buildup, or low-frequency noise before it reaches your signal chain.

Does the WA-47jr require phantom power?

Yes. The WA-47jr is an XLR condenser microphone and requires 48V phantom power, supplied by an audio interface, mixer, or external preamp.

Is the WA-47jr good for home studios?

Absolutely. While it’s a professional studio microphone, it is well suited for home studios thanks to its controlled top end, flexible polar patterns, & included shockmount, helping you capture high-quality recordings even in less-than-perfect rooms.
