Where the Buffaloes Roam: Building a Team for Life's Challenges

"Where the Buffaloes Roam: Building a Team for Life's Challenges" was an inspiration
This was a life-changing book. It inspired the building of a similar team for a dear friend who was diagnosed with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's disease). We stayed together and walked the journey of our friend's illness until the end of his life. What we learned was that building a support team for a friend with a terminal illness was as much a gift to us as to him and his family. And we also learned what a gift is given by gracious receivers. It takes generosity of spirit on the part of the one who is ill to be able to let others in -- to allow others to see him (or her) at his most vulnerable. We all feel helplessness when we can't do anything to stop the progression of a life-ending disease, but becoming a support team gave us something we could do -- for our friend and each other.

Positive thinking
I purchased this book at the suggestion of a co-worker who knew Bob Stone personally. My husband has recently been diagnosed with cancer and I need to keep him in a positive frame of mind. I just finished the book and read it first intentionally so that I could highlight the points I wanted him to pay attention to. We haven't yet begun treatment, but I am so grateful for the fight Bob Stone and his "team" waged in the war against this awful disease. Thank you to Genie, Jenny, Tyler, Marion, and Martha for sharing your loved one and most of all to Bob himself as I know he is watching over us all.

Leaves little room for the historical concept that you are your own best friend.

FOR PHYSICIANS, PATIENTS, FAMILIES, FRIENDS
WHEN MY BROTHER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LEUKEMIA, THIS BOOK WAS RECOMMENDED TO ME BY THE WIFE OF ONE OF THE PHYSICIANS WITH WHOM I WORKED. SHE WAS ALSO FIGHTING CANCER. EVERYONE IN OUR FAMILY READ THE BOOK AND IT HELPED ALL OF US ON THAT JOURNEY. IT'S THE 1ST BOOK ANYONE SHOULD PICK UP WHEN THEY OR A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER IS DIAGNOSED WITH A SERIOUS ILLNESS OR IS FACING A CHALLENGE IN LIFE. MY BROTHER INSTINCTIVELY KNEW HE COULD NOT FIGHT ALONE AND THIS BOOK GAVE US THE TOOLS TO PUT TOGETHER A "TEAM". IT IS MORE THAN WORTH THE OUT OF PRINT SEARCH. IT'S A BOOK EVERY PHYSICIAN SHOULD READ.
