THE BAND PERFORM SONGS FROM THEIR FIRST TWO ALBUMS IN THIS LEGENDARY 1993 BROADCAST A free concert given on 6th February 1993 by The Black Crowes at The Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, Texas - the last gig ever played at the venue (which was pulled down shortly afterwards) - was broadcast live to the greater Houston area by local FM Radio and syndicated across many other parts of the US. Fans of the band have often highlighted this gig as among the best the Crowes ever played and recordings have emerged from the radio broadcast that have been traded amongst collectors for many years, reaching near legendary status. This show was performed as part of the Black Crowes High as the Moon Tour in 1993, between the release of the albums The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion in 1992 and Amorica in 94 - indeed the group feature no less than six of that record s 10 cuts during this show s tenure. This was the Crowes most successful and creative period, and while the band are still touring and releasing new albums to this day. Despite a number of lineup changes and the odd hiatus or two over the years, it cannot be denied that the pure adrenalin, quality of composition and undiluted sense of what rocks and what doesn t, made the Black Crowes one of the finest American groups to make their name in the 1990s.

The Golden Crowes
The Golden CrowesByRob JonesThe Black Crowes are on top form on A Texan Tornado which unites live highlights from their opening duo of long players. A dozen ditties lead a free gig played on 6th February 1993. The concert also marked the final performance at The Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, Texas. The original FM Radio set is now available as a lively legacy of an era where this up and coming act were developing in to one of the finest purveyors of southern blues-rock for both new and old disciples of adult American guitar grooves. The Crowes crowd have always held this gig in high esteem so a public availability for mass consumption will be a tonic for devotees. The second Crowes long player The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion reached the top of the Billboard 200 in 1992-so this is a combo at the peak of their prowess one year later on the High as the Moon Tour. The chart topper spawned the singles Remedy, Sting Me, Thorn in My Pride and Hotel Illness- all of which topped the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart-and, this quartet of big hitters are present on A Texan Tornado. The Black Crowes ongoing story may have come to a halt or seemingly a conclusion in 2015. However, the act Melody Maker once categorised as ‘The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World’ are as sharp as a tack here!

How the Lone Star State was won
For myself (& a lot of fellow Black Crowes fans), it is a source of constant frustration that there has never been on official live album recorded in the 90’s. So we have to make do with yet another un-official sanctioned release.Originally released as a four track EP (Remedy, Jealous Again, Thorn in my Pride, Sting Me), I think as a bonus disc for a Black Crowes studio album Box set.Sound quality is decent, not as good as the EP or albums such as Fillmore, but still good enough to not distract from the performance (although it’s a bit cut & paste in-between the tracks that does brake the momentum of the concert in places (I guess it’s to fit the entire show onto one disc)).The show is absolutely electrifying, with the band on top form, putting their hearts into each song, the highlights being the expanded tacks like “My Morning Star”, “Thorn in my Pride” & “Remedy”, where the Crowes can show off their inventiveness & musicianship. It sounds like there a bit of crowd trouble at the gig, which adds an extra edge to the performance. So an outstanding concert & with the absence of any official release we will have to make do with these type of releases.

サザンハーモニーからのライブ音源
ジャケットにオードリー フリードが写っているのでLIONSあたりのライブ音源かと思い購入したのですが実際は良く出回っているサザン ハーモニー当時のライブ音源でした。
