Will the blade part get dull over time?  Using it every day on my Chihuahua's?

The EquiGroomer was designed to remove dead, unwanted hair from an animal's coat so although a Maltese or Poodle doesn't shed like most dogs, they do lose hair and get a buildup of dust and dander in their coats. The EquiGroomer will do a nice job at removing that which will really bring out the shine in their coats.

I have the furminator and my cat hates it!  is this a better option?  although i try to be extremely gentle, i feel as though this is just too much.

We believe it's a better option for a number of reasons. Your cat most likely dislikes the Furminator for a number of reasons: 1) the long tines pull on both her fur and skin which is uncomfortable and makes her feel trapped; 2) the tines may be scratching her skin which is also very uncomfortable; 3) the hairs may be getting caught between the tines which could lead to them being cut or pulled out.
