Highly recommended
This is an excellent product, easy to set up and use, with great results. I had previously tried scanning old slides with an Ion “slides forever” device, but the quality was terrible because of low resolution. This Magnasonic is more expensive but there’s no contest when it comes to quality. The resulting images are clear and bright. You have to feed slides manually but it’s quick and easy - each slide pushes the previous one out the other side. Exposure or colour can be adjusted when (rarely) needed, though not in detail. The device has a very small internal memory so it’s advisable to buy some standard SD cards for bulk processing. Important note: it will only work with lower capacity cards - 2GB recommended (which will hold a few hundred images). Files can be transferred to computer via card reader or direct from the device. No software needed.

Effective slide coverter
Converted transparencies/slides over 60 years old into jpegs. Pretty easy to operate and able to adjust brightness and colour balance, viewing the slide on the screen. Once image is saved to USB - not included and required for the unit to function - the images can be transferred to a computer and further enhanced using an edit function. Also converted stills from a 16mm film from some 70 years ago. Not such good quality but more down to the original technology. Yet to try negatives. A very good piece of kit for the amateur and cheaper than sending them off to a company to do. Not very time consuming and actually fun to go through 30 years of family history.

Excellent viewer, easy to use
I bought this to look through some old slides that I found at my mum's house whilst clearing it out. I wanted an easy way to view a large bag of slides from the 1960s - 1980's. This is so easy to use. You put the slide in the adapter provided, and then manually push the slide through the viewer with the next slide. It's easy to change the colour and brightness if you need to. Then just 1 press will capture the image onto the SD Card for you. It's only a few seconds per scan, and they are good quality. The picture above is from 1972, I did not edit any colour balance. I think the Magnasonic has produced a brilliant image. It is cheaper than other viewers out there, but it is certainly not lacking in quality. Again, as others have said, if your source image is faded or poor, then you won't get a brilliant scan, but otherwise I have absolutely no issues with it.

Potentially good, but disappointing
The scanner is well made, easy to use, and reasonably priced. The on-screen menu is easy to scroll through, and the buttons are convenient to operate. The colour rendition is very good with both slides and negatives, and the large display makes it easy to spot hairs or dust specks which have found their way in, before making a scan. I would have awarded five stars, but my scanner had a fault with the backlighting which the technical support line could not resolve, so I followed their advice and returned it for a refund. Maybe I was just unlucky?

Brilliant works a treat
Just purchased this, very easy to set up. I have hundreds of slides that belonged to my parents and I wanted to transfer them to digital without paying a fortune. Omg I love this little scanner so much, just done 250 slides in a couple of hours, wonderful memories, some not seen for 40 odd years and now they are on my computer to print or just view forever. Excellant buy

Good value for money provided you don’t want large enlargements, a useful piece of kit.
Works as advertised, the colour and brightness adjustments are fairly crude and post processing on a computer gives better results. Seems to work better with negatives than slides and the digital results are ok for viewing on an iPad but blowing them up reveals the underlying pixelation. Thicker 35 mm slide mounts will not fit the slide carrier, fortunately I do not have many of these and I will have to either remount them in thinner mounts or fabricate a custom carrier. Negatives don’t feed easily through the film mounts especially 110 sized negatives which often stick and misfeed. The quality of slide images is highly dependant on the quality of the original slides, whereas negatives give more play. However for a low cost item it seems reasonable value for money. I won’t be disposing of the original slides and negatives as these would enable better quality prints if I need them, I suppose any copying process inevitably results in some loss of quality. I did not see and improvement in quality using the higher MP interpolation, just much bigger file sizes; in fact reducing the file sizes from 3 to 5 MB to 100 to 900 kB on my computer did not seem to degrade the images as viewed on my iPad much and reduced the storage requirements. Generally I am pleased with my purchase, I have not tried projecting the scanned images onto my smart tv to see if any pixelation is apparent there yet.

Appareil parfait. Facile d'utilisation, et les fonctionnalités sont parfaites. Les photos sont nettes, les couleurs sont quasiment réelles, et les retouches très efficaces. Pour ma part je recommande ce numériseur.

I was looking for this product for long. I had tried to convert my negative to digital format using digital camera and home made projector using various DIY publications and they didn’t work for me. Using the Panasonic converter I have converted around 700 negatives to digital format. Only problem comes when the picture is of snow or very bright objects. The middle parts of such photos show yellowish tint. The professional positive hard copies are much better.
