The Pirc: Move by Move

Definitely the book I was looking for, and hoping for, as I've been studying "Pirc Alert !" for some time, and wanted more. I like the way the book is organized, the order of the chapters, the shared insights, the strategies of the various alternatives noted, the move by move format, and the initial concept pages at the beginning of each chapter. As a bonus, the book is bound well and will sustain extensive use, and the extra flaps on the front and back covers can serve as a handy bookmark, Nigel Davies is to be commended. Well done !

The entire Move-by-Move series is something of a gimmick to get book lovers like me to 'buy 'em all, kids!' Still, if you are at the beginning of a study of the Pirc I would recommend this book and Pirc Alert for starters.

Very skeletal. I've been buying books on this opening since the original and excellent Batsford in 1972. I have to say that this added almost nothing to my knowledge of the opening--not because I know so much about it, but because it seemed to consist very much of just recent games. Some discussion of main lines, but very little analysis of any sidelines.

I bought this because I thought it'd be a good intro to the Pirc repertoire, instead it's a study of ~20 master games, with alternate lines outlined by outside reference, all outlined in a dry fashion. Not absorbable without intense, focused study above 1500.

Explaining main ideas in a simple and understandable way with this interesting method of explaining/asking/answering questions. Avoiding entering in a mess of variants while supplying key master games for further deeping in main lines.Very advisable.
