Best HOB filter
Very high quality filter, zero issues with it, nice flow rate that you can control for both output and suction, fit with adjustable knob so it doesn’t slack as it’s a hob filter, water crystal clear !

Reliable and Effective
Most aquarium filters aren't very good. My Tidals (I've had a pair of 110s since 8/20) are an exception, having won me over after my initial annoyance with a rattling noise in one, which I eventually fixed. Water flow is good, the self-priming feature is very welcome, and their reliability has been great. I use a pair of these filters on a 90-gallon planted, CO2-injected aquarium with five large angels, four young keyhole cichlids, five black neon tetras (great fish), seven emperor tetras, five corydoras, and three SAEs--so it's moderately stocked. I also run a pair of Aquarium Co-op's coarse sponge filters with two air pumps. I guess I like my symmetry! I like them better than my two Eheim 2217s. Yes, two again. The Eheims get rattly after about eight years, so I have to periodically replace the shafts and grommets. Canister filters are a PITA to maintain regularly. I've relegated them to my other tank, a 55-gallon with about 20 yellow lab cichlids (Labidochromis caeruleus). Obviously that tank is heavily stocked, but the Eheims and another sponge filter work fine in that setup. I like a lot of Seachem products, but I've found I don't really need anything any more besides Prime and Purigen, since I already have CO2 and my favorite fertilizers are pond tabs (cheap) for plant roots and NilocG for DIY water column fertilization for leaf feeders. Seachem's Tidal filters are a quality product, just like Prime and Purigen.

Great filter one of the best worth every penny
Great filter with multiple options for tank cleaning treatment and unlike most hang on back filters the motor is separate but included with filter incase it gets burnt up you can just replace it and not the whole filter

My favorite HOB filter! Crystal Clear Water!
I REALLY like this HOB filter! It is the best one I have ever owned. I am running it on my new 75 gallon aquarium. It currently has the foam and ceramic media that came with in it. I also put some polyester filter fiber, some additional ceramic media and a pack of Purigen. This filter has A TON of room for whatever media you want. I am using the Purigen to remove the tannins from the new driftwood. I am also using two large sponge filters with ceramic media in them, and finally a big canister filter. What is nice about this set up is that I can pretty much use the HOB for polishing the water and adjust that media as necessary. The three other filters can be primary bio filters. The only issue with these filters is with the packaging and the dust. Just like many other reviewers mentioned, the filter was covered in dust when I opened the package. That dust is from the bag of ceramic media that they include with this filter. The unfortunate thing about that ceramic media dust is that it acts like sandpaper. My filter looks like it has been sanded in several areas. It kind of ruins the aesthetics of the filter. It is not a deal breaker by any means. I just don't understand why SeaChem can't fix this problem. If it were up to me I would: 1) get better plastic bags that won't leak dust from the ceramic media OR 2) just don't include the ceramic media with the filter. It is annoying to get a brand new filter that looks like it is 20 years old. That being said, I love this thing! It's got good flow. It's quiet. I like that it's black and I don't have to look at dirty media. Oh, I almost forgot! The media tray lifts out AND the lid is made to carry it. Turn the lid upside down and set the media tray on the lid. The media tray clips on to the lid so you can transport the media and clean up without spilling water everywhere! What a great idea! I added a video of my Koi Betta and four more pics of the tank. Just look at that crystal clear water! This filter is really great!

Seachem Tidal 110
I have had my eye on this filter for a long time. I have a tidal 35 on a 20g tank and I like it a lot. I decided to add another filter to my 125g African cichlid tank. They are messy fish! I love this filter. Very nice design. Lots of room for media for a hang on back filter. Made of very sturdy material. No expensive cartridges to replace you basically put what ever you want in it. It does come with some bio media through not very much. Also comes with 1 piece of foam. I added extra foam, Seachem matrix and for now activated carbon to polish the water. It Moves a bunch of water for an HOB. I do have 2 gripes about it. This filter has a skimmer. So it sucks water from the bottom and the top. I wish they would design a way to close the skimmer. I don’t really need a skimmer I prefer to have the water sucked from lower in the tank. Also it’s not as quiet as I thought it would be. Not a deal breaker. It’s about as loud as the canister filters I run on the tank but since it hangs on top of the tank you can hear it more. The canister is inside the stand so it hides the hum. As long as you keep the water level high on the tank you can avoid the loud splash from the spillway. Other than that I am impressed with this filter. Seachem makes quality products and the pump is made by Sicce. They have a great reputation for pumps. Very strong filter! ******UPDATE****** I purchased another 110. This one is louder than the 1st filter. They need to redesign this filter. I think the motor would be quieter if they eliminated the skimmer feature or added a way to close it. The skimmer slots is where the noise comes from. You can hear the motor rattling.

Impressive but not completely quiet
I have it on my 120 gallon tank along with two biological filters run by powerheads. It does a good job of filtering. It's not as quiet though like I've repeatedly heard. It sounds about like the Aqua Clear except it doesn't have the vibrating from the lid like the Aqua Clears I've had did.

I have had many hob filters and most are trash. I was a hard-core aquaclear fan until I had the filter get bunged up-and I didn't know it was that bad-so it began to overflow and drain my aquarium onto my carpet! It happened twice in a week and I ordered the Cadillac of filters (tidal) to replace them because I was done! Tidal filters are the first filters I have used that actually work like an aquarist would hope and dream. Things that impressed me greatly: - The lid turn into a tray for maintenance and its do cleverly designed that it actually seats in the lid so it doesn't tip over. - You can remove the entire filter insert so you can load it with floss and biomedia at you leisure, not bending over a giant fishtank. - You can lock that filter insert in so it doesn't fail like the aquaclear that ejects its own media when clogged. - The heater sleeve is smartly placed. - Easy to clean, because of stated reasons above. - variable flow, can be extremely calm or a turbulent depending on how you set it. - The design of the lip of the filter dampens the impact of the water so it doesn't splash. - It's seriously quiet, the waterflow is not noisy** - There is SO MUCH room to put your filter media in this hob. Major opportunities for crystal-clear water. ** The only bad thing I could say about this filter is that it CAN be noisy! If your water level drops past a certain point, it will make a sort of slurping noise that I must admit is unbearable, but I keep my tanks topped up so it's rarely an issue.
