Knitting Stitches VISUAL Encyclopedia
I'm a very visual learner, so when I decided to start knitting again, I bought this book (I'd lost my pattern books & pages in a fire). I am very pleased. There's a wonderful array of stitches and good photographs. It's categorized well, making it easy to find an "idea" for stitch work. I'm predominately a crocheter, and need diagrams with crocheting; I was a little surprised to find that knitting patterns are easier for me with text & a pic-- knitting diagrams confuse me. This book contains all three, though, so it is an all-around great book, for inspiring ideas and for doing some "test swatches."I so highly recommend this book that I even asked my local craft store to start carrying it!Nice variety of stitches to allow for novice/beginners to start, and I wouldn't be surprised if a knitting designer was able to combine the different stitch patterns in this book to create something fantastic.Hardcover. Tight binding. Glossy-ish pages. Clear type. Clear diagrams. Easy to see photos. Well categorized. Contains what stitch abbreviations mean (e.g. what SSK means) & a little bit of how to read diagrams.

A good book, with great pictures, however...,
I just received the book. The pictures are great, however it needs an alphabetized list. The stitches are organized by category, but are in random order. A stitch beginning with a B may be after stitches beginning with W or K. It's difficult to find what you want. A little more detail is needed for some designs. I'm an advanced beginner, with lots to still learn, and will use the book. My computer will be nearby, though, so i can learn details about some techniques.

Great photos
Pictures are very informative and helpful. Most knitting books don't have good pictures. As a novice, this book helps me a great deal.

Not great.
Disappointing book , after getting good reviews from fellow knitters . The photography does not often show the stitch, often with darkest yarn choices and inadequate lighting. Put your money towards something else!

The book itself is done beautifully. However
The book itself is done beautifully. However, I am VERY new to knitting, so this isn't quite what I thought it was. I was looking for a more how-to but something that had everything in one place. I will have to take a closer look and see if I am missing anything. I know that this will be a great reference book once I learn a little bit more.

Great Beginner Knit Stitch Guide
Love this. Great photos. Love that it includes charts and written instructions so I can refer to each.

The only thing missing...
I have found this book to be very helpful to look up unfamiliar stitches while reading patterns new patterns. The only thing missing?? An alphabetical index of the stitches. Its rather painful to have to look at the 7 pages of table of contents and look at all the stitch names to find the one you want. I just find it hard to believe that a reference book such as this does not have an index.

Clear instructions and well illustrated.
A good book of stitches for all levels and clear instructions with photos and charts. Exactly what I wanted. It would be perfect with a spiral system of pages to turn and stay open. I already have an old 'Harmony' book of knitting but without charts. I will be able to make my own charts of my favourite stitches from that book now as I go along. I'm pleased that both books will be useful as many of the stitches are different, or have different variations giving me more choice. 4 stars because of the difficulty of keeping the book open at the desired page. This can be overcome by copying the instructions onto a separate piece of graph paper.

A different take of representation by not cramming a no. of stitches on one page.
It has a good collection of unusual stitches that go beyond what one may find on the internet. However,I must say that there are some mistakes in printing, where the charts of some stitches have been interchanged on some pages. But still, you get an idea about the stitch counts etc by looking at them. All the charts give a very good understanding of the placement of the knits and the purls.Overall, its a good book as it allows you to appreciate each stitch's beauty and individuality,as there are only two stitches on each page with clear photos, explanation and a chart.

Loads of useful patterns
Ideal for anyone who designs their own knitwear or who wants to add something to personalise a pattern.

Usable but....
Have no technical explaination and found errors in some, also some don't use standard chart, too much visual noise in others.

Inspirational
This book has given me so many ideas for my knitting projects. My family love hand knitted socks, but there are only so many times I want to do the K1, P1 ribbing. The book has a whole chapter of different styles of ribbing. There are some very interesting cables that I may turn into another fishermen's sweater.I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to chart their own patterns.Since receiving this book, it has been beside my chair, and has been looked through many times, plotting my next pattern.
