No, I have it connected to a float switch.

Q: What's the adapter for connecting the pump with a standard 5/8" garden hose?

The outlet is for a 1 and 1/8" hose. You'll need to find whatever other fittings to go from 1 and 1/8 down to 5/8 for your garden hose

Q: Will this product work with out the float switch?

Yes. But you will need an on/off switch.(toggle switch)

Q: is the pump submirsed or installed out side the tank?

The pump is meant as a submersible pump, it is an excellent unit
