Ball Secure-Grip Jar Lifter (by Jarden Home Brands), Regular, Clear

* You can see it in the upper right corner of my photo. I love it❤. It's the only jar lifter I will ever use. And that's because it's well made, sturdy, and holds jars very securely which is of major importance when canning safely. It secures a good grip on a wet full hot jar and makes me feel safe that I won't drop it. Love it!

I have used many different jar grips and this one is the best. It grips and holds the jar so well. It is made well and holds up to lots of use. My other girls over time have rusted, but these have not rusted. I will definitely recommend the as a good value purchase.

I bought this jar lifter because the rather cheap one I have been using has not always done a good job (the steel does not go all the way through the plastic handle and can come apart when under high stress) and I'm concerned about a lifter failure and breaking a jar. I am concerned about over all sturdiness because I see many failures of this product in the Amazon reviews. This product appears to be constructed primarily of a zinc casting, often referred to as 'pot metal' or it may be something else, it is certainly not stainless steel. I spent a number of years as a welder in a General Motors plant and have dealt with such material many times (trying to repair failures, that is). This stuff is notorious for it's long term unreliability. A lot of cheap fishing reels and belt buckles are made primarily of pot metal because of it's resistance to corrosion, it can look like stainless steel when buffed to a nice finish. The weight of this item is not that of stainless steel. I do like the self-opening spring in this jar lifter, and I hope it is durable. Biggest reason I bought this item is that I am considering buying a digital pressure canner which requires the jars to have water in them during the jar warming process, then the hot jars have to be emptied before putting food in them. I do not trust my other jar lifter to handle the stress of this activity and so can only hope that this Ball unit is up to the task, long term. I used this jar lifter for two canning sessions so far and I like it, haven't had to hold jars with water in them at a 90 degree angle to empty them yet, hopefully it will continue to perform well. Will update this review if this device fails.

I bought these last year after struggling with making pickles with my kitchen tongs. These are so well made and can be used to pick up the jars by the top or side. What a pleasure to use. Made a difficult job sooo much easier. Thanks Ball, for continuing to make hardworking tools for the kitchen.

I've had this thing for a month or so, and I have used it at least 4 times. It performs completely as advertised. What would worry me most about canning, was just getting the jars out of the pot, in a reasonably safe fashion.This tool puts an end to that concern. You wouldn't believe the comfort and security of this tool, as compared to the past ones. It's well worth the $15 or so. Believe me.The only thing I wonder about, is that the instructions tell you not to run it thru the dishwasher, for whatever reason for, is not apparent to me. Being it's only getting dunked in and out of about boiling hot water anyway, why would I even think to do so, but the fact that it's not recommended to, spins my buttons of thought a bit.Whatever the rubberized plastic that makes up the grips of this device are, from what I know of plastics, from about 1850 to now, leaves me feeling that this thing will live useful for about 100 years or more, just my guess.

This Ball jar remover is perfect to use while canning. Helps hold jars firmly when lifting out of hot canner or water bath and prevents potential burns. It’s sturdy, easy to use and grips securely. Why did I not buy this sooner?
