Excellent quality product. Worked as intended
I have an old wood stove with 1.5inch gap so I had to install two 3/4inch ropes side by side. The adhesive is thin, black, sticky, and will be messy. If you get it on your clothes they will be forever stained.Obviously start out with a room temperature (or cold) wood stove.I made sure to prep the metal surface by removing all traces of existing compound and sanded (dremel) the surfaces to bare shiny metal.I test fit my 2 ropes and cut to size, making sure they were loose enough to flex as the door applied pressure.Make a diagonal cut on the caulk tube near the tip. The adhesive is quite thin (-1 star) and can get a bit messy. I recommend starting with a smaller cut for control. You can always cut it again and make it larger. Being so thin it should have no problem adhering to cold metal, assuming it's dry.I liberally applied to the 3 sides of metal and pressed the fiberglass rope into place. Have plenty of paper towels handy because this stuff can get messy. Where the ropes met I made sure the frayed ends were coated in adhesive and pressed together.Closing the door will likely cause some of the adhesive to ooze out so clean up with paper shop towels. One caulk gun sized tube is more than enough for a large fireplace door. Would likely be enough for 2 small fireplace doors. At this point the adhesive needs to be in the form you want it to permanently retain. It's going to harden so make sure there are no spots that could turn into rough or sharp edges when it cures. After checking fit I started a small kindling fire and continued to add wood over the next 6 hours until I eventually had a raging hot fire. I let the fire burn itself out and checked my handy work the next morning. The adhesive had converted into a rock hard cement and held its shape perfectly. It's been several months and many hot fires with no degradation of the product.Would recommend, A+
