Excellent transaction, Excellent product!
Stunning study of a Man's work in photographs. Brought me back to my earlier years when these photos documented a period in History that shaped who we are in America today, for better or worse. Magnificent work.

Brilliant
Don McCullin is the master of the war moment. Or was. He was so disturbed by it that eventually he had to check out. This book is a masterpiece and all the more for having been captured on film. Any photography student must study this and also check out all the interviews on YouTube

A Photographic Tour de Force
Don McCullin is one of the greatest photographers of our time and this 295-page book beautifully reproduces Mr. McCullin's work. The book includes stunning black and white images of England, Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin, Cyprus, Biafra, Vietnam, Cambodia, Beirut and Bangladesh. For example, the book contains (at page 90) an exceptionally moving photograph of a Turkish woman discovering the body of her new husband, killed with his brother and father in Cyprus in 1964. On the lighter side of life, the book includes gorgeous landscapes of Scotland. And the size of the images is large enough to really do them justice. I highly recommend this book.

Worth more than twice the price
The thing that struck me most about this incredible book is how many of the images were already somewhere in the back of my head - the albino child in Biafra, the grieving woman in Cyprus, the British soldiers running down a road in Derry. Since the erection of the Berlin Wall in 1961, Don McCullin had an uncanny knack of being in the wrong place at the right time and has used his camera to produce a searing indictment of humanity in the second half of the 20th century. The fact that he was shamelessly denied going to cover the Falklands is a testament to the power of his images. Yes, it's sometimes very hard to look at - but in a way I think that's the whole point. Real people, real lives - and real deaths. If I had to complain about anything it's that it doesn't come with a free DVD of the McCullin documentary - where this incredibly eloquent man talks about the stories behind some of his most famous images. What the hell - buy both of them. They're both astonishing.

A superb book
I’ve always admired McCullins work and this book certainly shows his skill, dedication and the dangers he faced getting the perfect image.First the printing, always something I like to know about before I buy. This book is beautifully printed and whilst there are several images printed across the centrefold, always a shame most images are printed one to a page. The book is divided by place and time and includes, images of war, documentary, portrait, and landscape. The images are superb in every category and confirms to me that McCullin is not a war photographer, he is simply one of greatest photographers who has documented the last 50 years.

4.5 out of 5. One of the great documentary photographer.
Don McCullin: The New Definitive Edition is an essential book for photographers. It I was going to rank the imagery on its own, the book would get 5 stars, easily. Don McCullin is one of the great documentary photographers and his work will often show the dark side of society. From war and famine, through to poverty and neglect in society. Many of the images are harrowing, with depictions of death, injury, starvation and illness. None of these things are glorified and I was left with a sense of sadness because humanity can often be so terrible. The book it self is very high quality, the paper used is very good and the prints are very good. The reason it drops a star (more half a star), is because some of the image cover 2 pages and with the beginning of the book, you can't see the whole of the centre of the image. This is much better at the end of the book, where you can see the the image on both sides of the page. This is really a minor problem but still unfortunately, an issue. So overall I would give this book 4.5 out of 5.

The Master
Don McCulin's breath taking work, is utterly masterful and deeply moving, not always easy to view but suffused with McCullin's profound empathy for his subjects and his remarkable eye for detail. It is incredible that these images which bring the true horror of war and famine and conflict straight into the viewers heart and soul would no longer be printed in newspapers and magazines for fear of upsetting viewers, but hiding from the horror doesn't make it go away and if we refuse to even bear witness then we are complicit in the darkness that suffuses the world.

Simply superb.
A wonderful retrospective of our greatest living photographer. What this man has experienced and witnessed throughout his sixty plus year career would leave todays snowflakes in therapy for the rest of their lives. Thank god for men like him who made us all aware of what was going on in the world at the time. Essential if you care about modern history and mans inhumanity to his fellow man, as is the DVD bio, which is even more harrowing. The man is a national treasure.
