This contactor is rated at 40 Amps and has a 24 Volt coil. This contactor has a heavy lug terminal and 4 male quick connect ¼” terminals on each line voltage connection to provide maximum wiring flexibility. The two terminals for the low voltage coil each have double ¼” male quick connects. The contact mechanism is enclosed to keep out insects and debris, but the visible plunger provides positive verification that the contacts are pulled in. The coil is encapsulated with no exposed tape wrapping. The mounting base measures 2-5/16” X 1-15/16” with four oblong mounting holes 1-5/8” x 1-5/8” on center. There are also four slots in the base to provide many mounting options. This part replaces most residential one pole contactors. The 24 volt coil is rated at 6 VA sealed / 31 VA inrush. The markings on the terminals of the old and new part were completely different. I was just careful to connect the primary power to the side labeled 440v and the control wires to the side labeled 24v. The main control wires on my AC unit had terminals whereas this new part had screw connections for the control wires just like the high voltage side. I had to cut the terminals off, strip the wires and insert them into the holes and tighten the screws. On my unit all the yellow control wires went on the right. Before, with the worn out original contactor, the compressor used to literally groan and growl especially during the first few minutes of operating. Now, with the 40A Protactor in place, there is none of that, very smooth and quiet, as it should be.
