Excellent 40" 1080i Monitor/TV For The Price
Since I had never heard of TCL prior to this purchase, I was a little wary to just jump and order one while it was on a daily deal sale. A quick google search though quickly quelled the apprehension. Turns out they've got quite a good reputation. When it finally arrived, I realised that 40" is a lot bigger than I had anticipated, but that triggered a rearrange to my home office that took it from being pretty cool, to being absolutely awesome! I couldn't have this giant TV blocking my window off to the right in the photo (since that's where the desk was prior to revamp), so I bought a 2x4, measured and mitred, and got to work using the corner space as the desk area instead. End result is totally it. :DThe TV is fairly light for its size, and the bracket I already had here at the house was more than sufficient to mount it to the 2x4 I mentioned above.Upon power-up, it instantly synced through HDMI with my computer, and only need some minor adjustment on the picture settings to get it to my liking. It's now been hooked up for a few months, and has performed flawlessly since.I do have an OTA antenna cable run back here to my stereo, and when I hooked that up to the TV and ran the channel search, it took only a minute or so to find the available channels in my area. I'm not too big on watching TV, but it's already been nice to hook that cable back to it, and watch the MLB playoff games in gorgeous 1080i.Colors are true and rich, screen is bright, but not fatiguing, and sound from the internal speakers is more than adequate for the rare TV use it gets. I'm sure it can produce sound from the computer through the HDMI, but that's taken care of with the external soundcard and speakers I've mounted on the sides. This is a really nice TV - a great deal for the price. Totally recommended. :D

Good Choice for Cheap, Large Gaming and PC Monitor
I bought this TV roughly a month ago, and I mainly use it as a computer monitor so that I could play video games from my couch. When I'm up at the keyboard and mouse on the desk, I'm roughly 3 feet away, and when I'm on the couch, I'm about 8-9 feet away from the screen. It's quite honestly an amazing setup. Even when I'm up close the picture is clear and crisp, and I haven't gotten any headaches from feeling like I'm too close. I think it's a little small to be great at 8-9 feet away, you lose some detail but not enough for it to be a deal breaker. If there was a 43" version of this, I would probably swap it out.Text is nice and crisp, and I have no problems reading any text on the screen although some colors are wonky together (pink and black in particular for some reason). I've played a variety of video games using this as a monitor, mainly Skyrim, Wolfenstein the New Order, Metro 2033, Crysis 1 and 2, from the PC and Kingdom Hearts and Bloodborne using the PS4 and I have no complaints. While this is a refresh rate lower than most monitors, I haven't noticed any amount of "ghosting" or any reduced capability of gameplay. If you're a competitive gamer, I would not suggest this, but if you're looking for something that can fit a casual gaming lifestyle, this is a good, cost-effective option.I currently have only 2 issues with this product: 1) The color is a pain in the ass to get to where you want it. It took days of fiddling with the controls, trying different things in both videos and games to see how it looks, and then changing it again and I'm still not sure I'm completely happy with it. Not a deal breaker, but annoying. 2) The audio is meh. I'm not an audiophile, so I think it's okay (not to mention I use external speakers from my computer 90% of the time) but I definitely can tell the difference when I switch over to the PS4 and it uses the tv speakers only.

No Option to Disable Overscan
Brief above-the-fold summary: Whether I recommend this TV depends heavily on what you plan to plug into it. Full details below:I got this for my living room while it was on sale, and for the first few days it was awesome. A non-smart LED TV with component input is so hard to find anymore (Apparently I'm the oddball for not having faith in most TV manufacturers when it comes to "smart" appliances? And don't start me on the missing Component input issue...) so finding one this size on sale was awesome. The sound still feels a bit weird, but I remember it felt weird the last time I switched TVs and the only reason I count it lower on this one is because the fine-tuning for deep sounds isn't there, yet the TV I got almost a decade ago (wow, that long ago already) has fairly robust controls surrounding how low/high-pitched sounds sounded and which ones got what emphasis how, built into the flat-panel TV with no external equipment. Anyway, modern inputs that support 1080p signal worked great...Then I got an itch for an older game and connected my PS3. Interestingly, I learned through this that some of the PS3 games I play don't even render at 720p, but rather at 480p, but the main point is it doesn't render games at 1080p. These sub-1080p resolutions are where this TV really starts to fail spectacularly, and older games (the obvious use case I think of for a component input) hit the worst spot here because games put useful things around the edges of the screen. This TV offers "16:9", "4:3", "Zoom", "Cinema", and "PointToPoint" for scaling the picture. All of those options except PointToPoint have overscan to varying degrees, which is a problem when most of the stuff you care about puts controls or other useful information along the edges. My fix for my Roku and my gaming PC was to just use PointToPoint, but those can do 1080p. PointToPoint is very literal, if you push a 720p signal it literally centers the 1280×720 image on the screen with a massive black border. There was no option to simultaneously stretch the image *and* avoid overscan. If you do not have and never plan to connect anything that pushes a signal lower than 1080p, or if all of your use cases are unimpacted by overscan, then I *would* recommend this television (at least on sale like I found it). Going with what I understand Amazon's system to be starting at 5 stars and subtracting based on problems: I remove one for failing to anticipate the totally predictable scenario of a non-1080p input that needs 0 overscan, and one more for TCL support (which did admittedly try very hard to troubleshoot the problem) having a testing setup but not including enough test devices to even replicate the issue before ultimately recommending I just return the screen. So in short, and bearing in mind my criteria are potentially "old fashioned" by 2019 standards, this TV is great if you only plan to hook up inputs capable of 1080p. Modern Roku devices, PS4/Xbox1, PC, these are probably fine. My warning is that if you care about 'legacy' equipment, this TV will not let you fill the screen *and* have no overscan at the same time. Be aware of that before purchasing, and plan accordingly based on your needs. It is sad to see a TV simultaneously get backwards compatibility so right with a component input and so wrong with picture fitting at the same time, but apparently good affordable TVs are just getting harder to come by these days.

Good TV
It's a good TV for the money, but don't expect a great picture. Very dark scenes on shows are near impossible to see. We noticed this when watching GOT. There is also some light bleed on the edges of the screen. Other than that, it's a good TV. you can adjust the screen settings pretty well to your liking, and the picture turns out pretty good. I like the 3 hdmi inputs, but they are on the side of the tv, which is not ideal for me, but that's a personal preference.I've only used this TV for about a week, so I'll edit this if anything changes.

Perfect for watching sports and Netflix!
Very satisfied: high-quality, low-price. May not have all the latest trendy gizmos but we weren't looking for a home theater, just a good TV to watch Netflix and Sports. Knowing that even the most expensive TVs will only last from 8 to 10 years, it was definitely a good buy.
