Q: What keeps a rod with a spinning reel in the holder? There's nothing to lock the rod in like when using a baitcaster.

It has to lay sideways with a spinning rod if you want to lock it in

Q: Which is stronger, the side mount or basic mount? i want to use these for trolling for walleyes.

I use the basic mount. and I troll for walleye
