Works just as intended ...
This retro dimmer switch is designed for older homes, meant to fit in with preexisting styles. We were remodeling our kitchen, and needed new switches, but wanted to find a dimmer switch in keeping with the age of the home and other switches installed throughout. This switch works well, and, if you like, it is possible to buy swappable decorative dials online to match almost any style. Simply pop off the old dial, and pop on the new one. The particular dimmer switch I bought is intended for a 3-way installation -- the dimmer operates and dims the lights from one end of the room, and the toggle switch on the opposite side simply turns them on/off.

Sometimes the straightforward approach might just be better. Simple
Sorry lighting guys but I still prefer this simple dial type dimmer. Dial in the brightness you prefer and when you push to click the light off and push to click it back on it remembers the intensity that you set. No sliding, no touching to go up then touching to go back down, or any other nonsensical scheme for just controlling a light. Sometimes the straightforward approach might just be better. Simple, inexpensive, and easy to install. Works on single pole and 3-way applications. Highly recommended.

3 WAY DIMMER - WORKS AS IT SHOULD
This dimmer box is fairly slim, unlike other wide body dimmers I have installed, and should fit all multi-toggle set ups (two or more toggles in the same switch box covered by a single wall plate). The dimmer worked for me just fine at a two toggle set up, (one switch for the ceiling fan light and one for the ceiling fan) with plenty of room to spare. The wiring diagram that comes with the dimmer is useless. The dimmer has the ability to be wired as a single pole switch (one light switch controls only one light or other device), or a 3 way switch (2 or more light switches control the same light or device). Here's how to wire this for a 3 way system. With the proper circuit breaker turned off (first step) and the wires removed from the old light switch, you should have 4 colored wires from the wall box. You may have various colors, but the typical home will have 1-Green or bare copper wire (ground), 1 Red (traveler), 1 Black (hot), and 1 White (common/load). This dimmer has 2 Red, 1 Black, and 1 Green.Connections:-Dimmers Green to the house Green or bare copper (ground) wire.-Dimmers Black wire to the house Black (hot) wire.-Dimmers Red wire (no flag or label on this Red wire) to the house Red (traveler) wire.-Dimmers other Red wire (this wire has the flag or label stating it is used for a 3 way configuration) to the house White (common) wire.Hope this helps! If your household wiring has different colors from what I described, or if you get stumped, feel free to ask, I'd be happy to help.I assume no responsibility in relation to this review.

Hard to find local item
With the demise of the common use of incandescent bulbs harder and harder to find locally, especially this double pole. I've always been a fan of dimmers since you can readily vary the mood in a room and dislike the slide type since they require more sensitivity to adjust they way I want them. Mfr. probably saves a couple of pennies on them and thus improves his ROI - a pox on the accountants who have been destroying the quality of goods in this country for at least the last 25 years.

This dimmer switch lasted 4 months before it would no longer turn on when pressed. I guess you get what you pay for....not even worth the time and energy to worry about the warranty.
