Saved from a treacherous wedding TWICE!
The story started off with a nice twist on the trope of young woman finishing yet another season without a match.I enjoyed the way the author removed our heroine from dangerous situations several times, and the HEA that eventually developed. I appreciate that this story is clean and appropriate for readers of all ages, and is enjoyable to read.CRITIQUE: A few discrepancies in character development arose that detracted from the story. (1) The main male character: devoted to wife and children before her death, then ran away (literally) from children for years; then, back to seemingly stable, dependable man fit for marrying.(2) The children had run off multiple governesses. Their abrupt change of behavior after so minor an event does not quite ring true.Summary: the bones of a good story are here. Character development and growth needs time in a story to ring true. By rushing these things to “get through” the story detracts from the book. With time and experience I expect we will see more polished writing from this author.

An Outstanding Storyline
The Marquees Arthur Colborne of Belgreen Manor hired a governess, Ellen Lewis to teach his two unruly young daughters. Juliet had escaped from her home so she wouldn't have to marry the man her father, Duke of Lymington had chosen for her in an arranged marriage. This was an excellent historical, fictional, romance story. I enjoyed from beginning to the end. It was entertaining and interesting that kept me turning the pages. Juliet/Ellen Lewis was an outstanding character with Marquee Arthur of Belgreen. There were adventures as the family traveled to their country home with the scenery well defined. The children were described in detail that kept story moving at a fast paced throughout. I enjoyed the storyline and all the characters that made the story come alive. I recommend this book to everyone.

Definitely a "clean and sweet" story
I didn't mind the book - I wasn't enthusiastic about it, but I didn't mind it. It was simple and honest - but there was no ... life ... in it. I'm not sure if it was the writing style - I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with it, but it didn't flow smoothly.*** SPOILERS ***Everything was resolved too easily - the children loved her too quickly, the hero was too quickly taken by her smile, the dog was too cute, the house was too beautiful.Mind you, the hero was a bit whingy and selfish, but that's typical of the era. The heroine came across as a a victim, but that's also typical of the era. I found the father's turnaround a bit too abrupt - someone that focused on monetary things and his own social standing, would not forgive and forget so easily. All in all, not a bad book, but I wouldn't reread.

Clean historical romance and with a puppy added!
I truly enjoyed this clean historical romance. Love was portrayed clearly thru the family as they accepted each other, and adding ‘Rover’ to draw the children in was so much fun to read.

Sweet story
The heroine is just trying to get out of a forced marriage. The hero hasn’t come to grips with the loss of his first wife. The daughters are a welcome relief, but I felt that they changed their attitude to the governess fairly quickly. I liked the dreams with the first wife in them. It was a sweet read with a little tense moments after the heroine’s father finds her.

How a show of care can change a family.
This was a very heartwarming story. Showing a little care for a poor animal showed 2 girls that were determined to hate an interloper, that love comes in different forms and can be received and given.

Really good historical romance!
This book of Sally Forbes was really good. If you love historical romances, but you don't want to feel like you're having a history lesson, it's the perfect book for you! It definitely was like a simple historical romance with no unnecessary details and I could really connect with the characters in the book. I'm definitely looking forward for more of Sally Forbes!I received an advanced copy from the author and am leaving an honest and voluntary review.

The heroine flees a horrible suitor and mends a broken family with her love
A sad Marquess needs help to get past the grief of his wife's untimely death, and a duke's daughter escapes from an uncceptable betrothal to hide out as governess to his two unhappy daughters. Love heals all, and there is a puppy too! Then disaster strikes, and the worst is only avoided by the narrowest of margins - and all ends well. There are some delightful secondary characters, especially Nancy - you'll see when you meet her. As before the author has written an extended epilogue that shows some aspects of their HEA as it works out. If you like your romance sweet and clean, with a bit of suspense, then this is for you.

A lovely story
I enjoyed this story. It was lovely to see a family bonding, a little mystery and plotting spiced up the usual romance.

Please put extended episode on your original book
What I really dislike is the fact that a lot of authors give an extended episode at the end of their book. If you are on amazon.com I believe you have no problem getting this extended episode, however I am on amazon.ca and I can never get this episode, which really aggravates me.Instead of leaving me wanting more, and getting frustrated because I can't get it, please put this extended episode on the original book.

Clean sweet read with a touch of suspense
I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review, but I enjoyed it so much that I purchased a copy. Sally Forbes writes clean historical romances, which are a delight to read. Her heroes/ heroines are not perfect - this time it is the H who is a gruff & moody widower, although the h has problems of her own. It must have been particularly hard for young ladies to have little or no say in their futures. I thought the h was particularly brave in leaving home to become a governess to avoid marriage. A couple of continuity issues, including the ages of the girls, the maid’s name & whether the passengers were woken from their slumber, or not. There were a couple of American words/ spellings, & a few wrong words used, but can be easily corrected.Lady Juliet assumes a fake name & accepts a governess position in order to escape an undesirable marriage with an Earl, whom her father has arranged. Although she has no experience, her charges quickly warm to her with the help of a rescued puppy. Even her employer, a marquess, falls for her charms, although he knows he cannot fall for her. The Dowager Marchioness pressures her widowed son to remarry, a prospect he cannot even face. However, when Juliet’s pass catches up with her, will the marquess give her a chance, or will he turn his back on the young lady who lied to him, but managed to worm her way into his & his family’s affections? The author ends the book with two epilogues. She also leaves a link for an extended epilogue, something I am not so keen on: I much prefer if authors just put extended epilogues in their books - I am impatient! Finally, I love the cover - the rich pink dress is so eye-catching. However, this particular dress is not mentioned in the book...Not the author’s fault as I believe they don’t always have much say in the cover picture.
