If you tow or haul heavy loads, I recommend this
I blew a transmission (188000 miles) and had this installed during the replacement. I didn't pay enough attention to the transmission during its life, but this would have helped. I had the transmission shop install it. Recommended! I will probably add a differential temperature gauge next.

Quality and operation
Loved it, just what I needed for my race car I would definitely buy again.

Quality and Accuracy at it's Best
I bought this gauge for my 93 GMC K1500 to monitor the transmission temperature when pulling a trailer. And for this winter, I put a plow on the truck, and I would also like to monitor the temperature then as well, because over winter I use a winterfront so I don't lose engine heat when the truck's block heater is plugged in. Now if it starts to get hot, I can always open up the winterfront to let in more airflow. So far I have found the gauge to work flawlessly. I have it installed in the test port of my 4L60E, where the mechanic that does transmission work for me suggested I put it (I'm a mechanic, but I don't work much with transmissions). I also have a Hayden 678 tranny cooler installed in front of the AC condenser. When driving down the highway at 60mph, I see temps of about 125-130. Mixed stop and go city and some short 50mph stretches have stayed under 150. When pulling a 20 foot loaded car hauler at about 8500 lbs gross weight with mixed city and highway, the highest spike on a 1 mile long moderate hill at 60mph, I have touched 210 if I really push it. Backing off and taking it easy up the hill shows 190-200.The gauge comes with:-Gauge-mount-sender with adapters-bulb and socket with red and green covers (which I found dulled the light)So people are aware, there is no wiring or connectors included. You will need some spade connectors, as well as some length of 18gauge wire. I also suggest installing an in-line fuse with a rating of 5amps.As of now, I have had the gauge in the truck for a little over 1 month and have no complaints. You may want to consider buying a different mount though. The one included gives you one option, which for my truck worked well. It is installed in the pocket where the stock radio used to be. I have uploaded a picture of where it is.

Does what it should.
Good gauge that seems to work well.It comes with a good selection of adapters to plug the sending unit into the transmission.I like the fact that you can use blade or ring terminals to hook the wires to the gauge. I used ring terminals because I think they're more secure. Be aware this kit doesn't come with wires or terminals though. This kit is really designed to be mounted in a hole in the dash. The plastic mounting hardware that comes with it is kind of flimsy, but would probably work. I didn't use the mounting hardware because I mounted it differently. If you're going to mount it on a flat surface somewhere you'll need a mount like this one -> Auto Meter 2204 Mounting Cup . Be aware if you do use that mounting cup that you'll have to cut short the 2 threaded rods on the back of the gauge before it will slide all the way into the cup.I really like the light system in this thing. It's easy to see at night, without being obnoxiously bright. One thing I don't like though is that the bulb makes the metal housing of the gauge get stupid hot. Like, you can't hold your hand on it, hot. It was so hot I was actually worried it would melt something, so I bought one of the auto meter LED bulds -> Auto Meter 3285 LED Bulb Kit . It replaced the stock bulb perfectly and it lights the meter like it should without getting hot.Wiring instructions that come with it are pretty straight foward.Overall, I like it.

Works great for 97-01 cherokee xj. 2" hole saw + SEALIGHT 194 8SMD LED
Since the kit comes with a single wire sending unit, it will ground through the transmission threads. If you are not using a trans port and instead using rubber lines with a T, add a ground wire below the insulation between the sender and the brass fitting used. The sending unit ground is connected either to chassis or battery negative. The wire on the top (positive) of the sending unit connects to the (S) terminal on the gauge. I connected the (I) terminal to 12v positive at cig outlet, as well as the ground to the ground for the cig outlet. The transmission shift bezel light was used for the light source. Swapped out the stock bulb with a SEALIGHT 6000k LED, brighter and it stays cooler. A 2" hole saw and some sand paper worked well to get a perfect fit for the gauge itself.Used an IR gun to verify accuracy of the sending unit and it seems to be right on. I connected the sending unit with a 3/8" fuel pressure t fitting from glowshift + a female to male npt 1/8" brass extender. Put that on the hot line(output) before the radiator with some 3/8" transmission line as well as some 3/8" brass barb splicers. So far so good.

Great subdued look
Gauge works well for my purposes. Great subdued look. Just needed a general idea of how hot my trans is running and didn't want to plumb a mechanical gauge with hot trans fluid into my dash. Readings are always consistent based on how I'm driving so I have no reason to question its accuracy.I Needed to fix leaking transmission lines anyway, so I cut the hard lines before the crimp, used the 3/8 fitting for the sender to attach to the top of a brass tee, connected tee to hard line with a compression fitting (which also provides the ground back through the transmission and/or engine support bracket) and finally a barb fitting to reconnect the soft hose. I ended up buying another sender (AutoMeter 2258) and duplicated the setup for the pre and post cooler lines so I can flip back and forth (to check how well the cooler is working) on the same gauge using a toggle switch.

Good part works, more white glow then green though
Good quality part, price is a bit steep but I needed it, only thing I don't like about these gauges is the glow is more of a white then a green and all my dash gauges like most are more green then white
