Q: Does this go across the body?

I am able to wear across body or on shoulder.

Q: Can I remove that silly patch without damaging the bag?

I can tell you why because where I live dimensions would see that patch as an invitation to steal the bag it does say come and take it that's what happened to my 55.00 phone charger at work someone just snatched it. So if you want to tempt fate just leave it on there seriously people steal other people's stuff and I want to do everything to prevent that from happening again.

Q: The design isn't symmetrical, so which side of the body is this designed to be worn (slung) on?

I wear it with the pack on my left side with the strap on my right shoulder but it can be worn comfortabley on either side

Q: How big is the pocket for CCW?

The pocket is 8 inches wide at the zipper and 9 inches deep. You can get just about any full sized handgun in it. There are also Velcro loop pads sewn in to keep a holster with the hook pads secure and in position to draw out.
