Life saver
All 6 spark plugs broke on a customer 04 Ford F-150, at first it’s a little tricky to use but once you get the feel for it- it gets easier. Once you get to the 6th plug the extractor is pretty worn out so it’s best to get a replacement extractor for the next job but over all worth it.

No breakage when I used this tool
Dustin, I don't know what went wrong, but I can echo everyone else's positive experience. I could find no other information about this tool other than the other guys' comments below. Before I bought this I posted a question about how you turn the tool and such, Nick B. gave the best answer. Two others says to use a 1/4" or 3/8" ratchet.A little more detail might help others that are on the fence... The skinny/fat piece (top/left in the picture) has the 9/16" socket on the end and goes down over the spark plug hex. The threaded piece will un-thread all the way off the fatter 9/16" socket piece and you have to thread it on just one or two threads. There is a silver sleeve inside that will grab onto the to electrode of the plug as you place it down on the plug and onto the hex. Twist the black threaded piece down by hand until it is snug and then tighten (but not too tight) with an 8mm socket. This binds the electrode/porcelain to the hex. Then the fat piece slides down over the piece you just put on the plug, like a socket. This fat piece takes a 1/2" drive ratchet on the top (the instructions actually says it is a 3/8" drive, but it ain't.) So now your 1/2" ratchet turns both the plug hex and the porcelain at the same time. You still have to go slow and use some PB Blaster or carb cleaner on the plug to loosen the carbon around the lower electrode shield.IF the plug still breaks and only the hex comes out, that other short piece and the nut are used on the skinny threaded piece to pull the porcelain (and maybe the bottom electrode shield) straight out of the plug well. The short piece simply sits at the top of the plug well on the engine and the nut is tightened against it so the tool is pulled straight out with the top electrode and porcelain attached. If only the porcelain come out you would have to use the Lisle or other tool to remove the electrode shield. I did not have to do this, all 8 plugs came out intact.I still got the Lisle tool as insurance, but it's still in the box.

Ford - Spark Plug Remover
This is the only tool available for removing Ford spark plugs without breaking them. Its sturdy, its well made, and it will remove the troublesome Ford Spark plug. We have used it on several trucks in our shop with ease. Highly recommended for removing spark plugs. No need to worry about them breaking off. Its a top class product. Saved many hours of removing them.Update - 6/23/2014Been using the OTC 6918 for over a year now, Haven't seen anything better. The company I work for has at least 20 of these trucks still in use. What we found out changing these plugs is first blow out the spark plug port while wearing goggles then spray Aero Kroil in the ports then wait 15 minutes. Now very important take the new plug and place it in the tool and hand tighten to see how much grab the tool really has. Remove plug and place on plug in motor, once again tighten by hand and then tighten 1/8 to 1/4 turn with socket. {If you over tighten the collet you could break the plug.} Assemble tool and turn slowly 1/8 to 1/4 turn counter clock wise. Remove tool and spray Aero Kroil one more time. let sit 30 minutes and reinstall tool to finish removing plugs, work them back and forth Slowly till plug is ready to come out. I should also mention that while using the tool we never had any of the spark plug retainer nuts come off. Which was a problem before we got the OTC 6918. But I should also say that we did have one plug break removing everything but the tip. That was the only time we needed the Lisle tool { nice tool to have} The tool will work if you take your time. A lot better than trying to push or drill the porcelain in the motor. Its only common sense

I purchased both the Lisle tool and the OTC 6918 Spark Plug Remover Kit to change the plugs in a 2006 Expedition. The OTC tool worked on a couple of the frozen plugs but the Lisle tool was also needed on a couple. Depends on where the plug breaks apart when you are trying to remove it as to which tool work best. They both served their purpose for their respective application. Best thing you can do is to not break any of them and you won't need the tool. I found a YouTube video that recommended spraying down with penetrating oil, letting it sit 30 minutes, and then hitting it with an impact wrench and a spark plug socket. I thought the guy was nuts but after breaking all four plugs on the right bank with a conventional spark plug socket and ratchet, I though what have I got to lose. I used the impact and spark plug socket on the left bank and was able to remove all four plugs effortlessly, almost immediately, and without even breaking a sweat. Yes the ones against the firewall are hard to get to but if you have some different length extensions and a couple swivels you can get the impact on all 8 plugs on that vehicle. So if you are at the point of reading reviews for this tool it is probably too late to let you in on the impact secret but wanted to pass that knowledge on in case you still have a few plugs to change. Tool worked great for what it was designed to do.

Not as Advertised
I think this product will work fine. I can only say I think because it will not work for my particular application. The instructions say it is made for Ford 4.6L engines. I bought it for my Mustang GT. The channel for the spark plug is not wide enough to accept the width of the socket to get it onto the spark plug. Therefore I cannot use it for my car (one and only vehicle that I have for this tool).
