Steamist SM-11 11 KW Steam Generator

I've owned this unit for a few months now. I've finally got around to writing a review. I'm not sure how much demand there is for a unit this large however. Hopefully it will help though as I bought this one on a whim without any reviews. I had never heard of Steamist before I started looking for a steamer for my home.First off, this unit is a heavy, solid, piece of American made equipment (built in New Jersey). I may be old fashioned, but I've always felt that the weightier the product, the better components are inside of it. That said, the construction of the unit was simple and everything was straightforward when installing. The computer unit looked nice and was easily accessed if something needs to be changed.This unit draws a lot of amps, and it will require a 240V line, it draws I think 42amps. It's basically like running a hot tub when it's operating the boiler. I'm sure this thing is an absolute energy hog, but honestly... you're buying a steamer for a private home. I don't think energy conservation is your main priority. So if you're trying to go green, a steamer of this size is not something for you considering it's made for steam rooms around 500 cubic feet.Onto the operation... the thing heats up incredibly fast. I have it producing steam within a minute or so if I'm starting from cold. If I've run it within an hour it will start steaming in 20 seconds or less. It produces HUGE clouds of HEAVY steam consistently. My room is about 430cubic feet and I can have it full of steam and hot within 5-10 minutes. This unit was made with commercial club operation in mind. I will say though that I've never been in a commercial steam room that had this consistent quality of steam.I got the fairly simple controller that is recommended for this unit (TC-150 I think?), and it's another solid item. I'm pleased with the quality of the accessories. I asked Steamist if it was a good idea to run this unit on filtered water and they said it would help the unit last longer, so I installed a filtration line directly into the unit. It seems to help keep a really clean feeling/smelling steam (my water has a lot of iron).So far everything has been good. Steamist has provided me with great customer service when I needed it (really only for 2 questions about accessories). I only have had experience with one other company (Mr. Steam) and I decided to try another company for my home steamer, I've been very pleased with the decision.

the SM-11 you will receive is an updated model than that shown and described. it is a different design and in a black metal case, not white. Works great, just a bit confusing.

Bought this in 2014 as we were building our house (though this is easily installed in existing homes). I must say, this is the best and most used feature in our home. We are allergy sufferers and sitting in the steam to help break up and relieve pressure is just amazing. I also have 4 children (7-18months) and I use our steamer for relief of all cold symptoms. Medicine is not recommend for most of my kids ages and natural options are all I have. Steam mist is just wonderful for cough and congestion relief. My husband and I love to sit in on the 100 setting, but our kids do good at 86-90.

great product. gives off plenty of steam. but don't buy or use if you are watching the electricity bill. this thing gobbles energy like pacman does dots.

5 stars but still early. Just had it insalled 4 days ago. Used it 3 times. Everything I envisioned. Wanted it to be close to what I experienced at my gym steam (which is 45 minutes away ) and looks like I got it. This seems to be real deal!!

great product beware that you have to buy the control and trim separate.
