Too Ordinary Spies
A couple, while on holiday abroad from London, are befriended by a Russian oligarch on an impetuous whim. Our protagonist is a mere professor of poetry at a British university, and his wife is a very "sharp" London barrister. It is made clear, early on, that the couple is having marital problems and are on edge with each other. As the plot unfolds, the oligarch engages with greater certainty to involve the professor in some mysterious business, by passing the professor a memory stick, containing information that would be instrumental in exposing work between prominent British high officials and the Russian mafia. The professor is asked to deliver the memory stick to MI-5 when he returns to London and he will be out of any harm's way, there on. Simple as his task appeared to be, that was not the case as our couple, on moral convictions, is dragged even further into an accelerating, exciting spy drama. An unsanctioned, under-staffed MI-5 plan puts everyone in danger, while a duplicitous MI-5 officer tries to gain more incriminating information, without committing to protect the oligarch and his family. You can just see yourself following the same naive steps down a path created by these same circumstances. And you will never know what will go wrong or when. But it is exhilarating!

Stellan Skarsgard's brilliant acting makes the film shine whenever he's on screen
This film combines a bit of romance, sacrifice for family, international espionage and Russian Mafia, all in one. The actor who makes this film work is Stellan Skarsgard. I've followed him for years - in his Swedish films and American. He seems more valued in Sweden, as it appears Hollywood doesn't quite know how to cast him. He is an amazing actor and what he brings to this film is a brilliant talent. When he is on the screen, you can't take your eyes off him. At last Skarsgard's been given a lead role and he takes his character, Dima, to the limit. Frankly, if Skarsgard were not in the film, I would never have bothered. I saw this in the theatre and couldn't wait to buy the DVD. To me, McGregor and other cast members are where they should be - in supporting roles.Skarsgard's personal backstory is interesting. I believe he lives in Sweden and has 9 children. I first saw him in a Swedish film - "Insomnia". An American remake was done with Al Pacino in recent years, but even with Pacino's talent, the remake doesn't touch the original, as is so often the case. I encourage all to see this film if only for the chance to see this brilliant actor holding a master class in acting.

good adaptation of a le carre story
good adaptation of a le carre story. however Hollywood decided to give it a happy ending where the guilty are punished. the book didn't end that way.

Well paced and suspenseful
The film was shot in a variety of interesting and sometimes beautiful locations. Characters were well developed and drew me in easily.

Underrated gem
Very much like most LeCarre books that have been made into movies. Great performances.

Better than the book
Much better than the novel because it answered all questions and had a better resolution to the story. But you couldn't follow the plot unless you had read the novel.
C**.
Slow moving
Moves too slow. Naomie Harris is the best thing in it
