Swing and a Miss. AGAIN!!!!
I’ve previously owned Lone Peak 4, Timp 1.5, and Superior 4. All of these shoes were great fitting with the wide toe box. I have a wide toe box and high instep but a narrow heel so finding shoes that aren’t too tight or sloppy fitting is hard. The best shoe I ever owned was the Timp 1.5. For some reason Altra has moved away from the generous toe box and has gone back to making shoes like everybody else. I’ve tried the Lone Peak 4.5, Timp 2.0, and Olympus 4.0 hoping to find that same fit to no avail. These shoes all have a narrower toe box that pinch my toes. I took a measuring tape to compare my Timp 1.5 to these Lone Peak 5.0 and there is fully 1/4 inch difference in width! I contacted Altra support and they promised the Lone Peak 5.0 would be going back to the original wide toe box fit. What a let down when I received my beautiful red Lone Peak 5.0s. Not only was the toe box too cramped but the lace up portion down by my toes now pinches too. They make a Wide version now that may remedy the problem but they only make it in the nasty looking Blue/Lime. Really Altra, is this the best you can do? So very disappointed I have to look elsewhere.

Wide Fit Is Great!
I have purchased many different Altra shoes and so far these are the best. The wide fit is perfect for my duck shaped feet and a feature that is long overdue. Altra has hit the sweet spot with the Lone Peak wide shoe.BTW the seller was excellent in handling the exchange of a larger size for one smaller. The wide fit brought the size down by 1/2.

Unfortunate Size Fail 5
I love Altra shoes because they’re the only company I know of making foot-shaped trail shoes for runners. All other high-end favorite runners’ brands squish my toes or have some torturous arch support. That being said, The Lone Peak 5 is too lengthy. It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the standard width in US 11.5 is just too long compared to my 4 and 4.5 in the same size. Was this extra length intended to keep the big toe from rubbing against the top of the toe box? Did the addition of the wide model throw dimensions off at the factory in Vietnam? I have no idea, but for me my usual size in standard US 11.5 is half a size too long when it comes to the LP5.As soon as I stood with this shoe I could feel the bottom of my foot sliding in it in the living room, not good. Using all available eyelets i snugged the laces up and moved around. The laces loosened as I moved about and exposed my second dislike about these shoes: That massive ankle opening. Please realize my 4 and 4.5 have hundreds of miles each, and they’ve been pretty well put through the ringer. Whereas the LP5 is brand new and just too large of an opening, kinda like what I experienced with the King MT 2 (probably the coolest shoe you’ve ever seen with a Velcro strap). I definitely can’t be slip slide skin melting in these on the trails. The Ego obviously felt more responsive/springier compared to previous models.I could just go down half a size to 11, but then I worry about how tight the mid foot would be, because there is definitely more mid foot support in the LP5 than the 4 or even the 4.5. I think I’m going to be sending these back and once again be cutting into the heels of a brand new pair of 4.5.Altra DID get rid of the Achilles heel destroying upper tab (as all running/hiking companies should) that sullied the 4.5 for some, so there aren’t any comfort complaints or hot spots to speak of. If I got these LP5 again I’d go red. Just sayin.

For the skeptics!
For the flat footed, this shoe is awesome! I’ve been wearing low and zero drop shoes for a wile now, I’ve tried about 6 different brands already, and have to say these are my favorite shoe. (Excluding boots). Plenty of support even tho it doesn’t have a heel counter, lots of space for toe splay and plenty of grip for trails and a little much for in town walking but still comfortable. Not sure about the heel rubbing blisters yet, walked around in these for a few hours with no hot spots or pinching at all. Very breathable with a thin but still padded tongue. As far a cushion goes it’s very supple without being overly spongy with plenty of support. (I’m 5’10 235 size 12.5 shoe). If your looking for a trail/hiking shoe that is light weight and grippy give these a try!

Light, comfortable, and a life saver
I have had foot pain for several weeks. Tried inserts, metarsal pads and different shoes. Just 2 days with these shoes and my feet are much improved. Maybe it's the nice toe box allowing room, maybe the zero drop and insole. Not sure, but very light weight and comfortable. Can get back and enjoy the outdoors again.

Best Model Yet
I’ve been a fan of Altra through several models. My complaints with the previous model like arch protection have been corrected in this version. I still with the exterior toe cap was extended a bit to cover the big toe. Mainly because that’s where my shoes always fail but this model feels like it’s internal so we’ll see how long it lasts. Arch protection was a major improvement. I run in rocky areas and several times took a rock to the inside arch that about pit me down. Previous model had just the regular shoe material there, but this one has a reinforced area.

Great improvement
Originally had loan peak 4 rsm which were almost sent to the bin as I found them almost unwearable to start with, too tight across instep and toes ,also leaked straight away! But I put in a thinner innersole and this cured the fit problem even though they still let in water and getting worse, but they are so comfortable for walking now that I wear them frequently but I wanted something more breathable for hot weather walking hence the loanpeak5, I can say they are a great improvement not tight at all, I don’t run ,only walk everywhere, if you like zero drop these are great shoes but quite expensive and the sole tends to wear quickly, but I love em!!

Alle Altra Schuhe trage ich in Größe EU42/US 8.5.

Best trail running and hiking shoe
Best pair of Altra I've ever worn! Fits like most Altra shoe with wide toe box amazing grip with a great feel of ground you're running on. I also wear them as a hiking shoe and better than any other shoe or boot I've worn before. Would recommend getting Altra gaiters for bushier trails. All around amazing shoe! Would definitely recommend!
