This is written in French, and tells the story of the changes in the French language throughout history. It is very well written, easy to figure out, entertaining and eye opening. Hard to put down!

Arrived in a timely fashion but the book was falling apart. What can you expect for ten dollars though?

An invaluable book for any lover of the french language.A fascinating insight into the modern language, its history and its regional concurrents including the patois which the authorities have consistently attempted to marginalise and eliminate.In some regions, regional languages like Breton and Occitan are hanging on, Basque is flourishing but some have already died out. Franco-Provencale has perhaps only the elderly of the current generation keeping it alive before it too succumbs under the relentless march of standard French.Henriette Walter is a talented author and linguist who has made a complex subject eminently readable.

Great condition, and very interesting. For those who aren't fluent in French, I still found it easy to understand

Ho acquistato il libro per i miei studi universitari ed è stato veramente utile. Non solo descrivere la storia della lingua francese, ma analizza tutte le sue sfaccettature più attuali. Davvero ben fatto.

Un libro ben scritto che affronta un po' tutti gli aspetti di una disamina linguistica. Peccato solo, come d'altronde nella maggior parte dei libri di linguistica, che non accenni minimamente al pensiero di Giovanni Semerano. Un ottimo libro comunque, molto utile.
