The things you should look for in a product are usefulness, transportability, durability, and necessity. You want a product that you will actually use first and foremost. What good is it if it is never being used. Secondly you will want a product that will not break right away and will be useful for at the very least a year. Third, you do not want a product that is a pain to lug around. Finally, do you absolutely need this product. As a college student with a MacBook, this product is very helpful and useful to use. Do to the product being without ports to reduce the size of the laptop this product comes in clutch. Whether that is with a USB drive, mouse, or phone charger there will always be a reason to use this product. You will not have any issues with this USB-C it is really small and easy to transport with my laptop and fits perfectly inside its case. It is small enough it does not become an eye sore while you are using your laptop. It even allows you to still charge your laptop while it is in use. You will most likely have the same experience using this product. I have had this product for 3 months now and have had no issues with its durability. There are no frayed wires happening and the exterior is showing no signs of wear and tear. It is not made cheaply like some other products. The price point on this product is perfectly in reason for how valuable this USB-C is to your needs as a student. It is in a nice range and fits into a budget, if cost is a concerning factor to you. The only negative I see for this product is the cord length; it would be perfect if the cord had an extra inch on it. It would be nice to have a little more wrist woom so yo do not have all those cords all bunch up together. Hopefully, you found this review helpful to making your selection.

First one rec'd: 1-2 stars b/c Iffy connection. It may or may not be charging when I'm using it to connect to a USB/speaker and hoping to power my new 2017 MacBook 12" at the same time. I had to jiggle it or replug it in the laptop till I saw the lightning indicator. Also stops charging if jiggled in the wrong way or moved. Bummer. It does adapt for 2.0, 3.0 USB drives but I can't plug into the laptop and use the USBs at the same time, which was what I bought it for. Unexpected and welcome replacement: Sophy from Lention emailed me and sent at no charge a replacement with the request that I try it and give them feedback--no reference to my low review. The difference is night and day. The C port is as snug as it should be. As soon as I plugged it in the laptop and then to the Mac adaptor, I heard the reassuring little sound that my brand new macbook 12" was charging. I moved it around and wiggled it, still charging like a champ. Its USB 2 and3 ports are also very snug, almost hard to put in and take out, but that makes for an excellent connection. No problems with the replacement, and a great savings over the apple store version at $65! But I do think the company has a quality control problem with its manufacturer. As other reviews indicate, some work great, others not so much. However, I REALLY appreciate a company that makes an effort on its own to sort things out. A+ for customer service,Sophy, B for merchandise quality (one nearly useless item and one flawless so far.)

I actually ordered this right after I got my gold colored Mac and was just tickled that it matched! It turns out to be a really handy little gadget to have on hand. It works well all the time and I have had no negative issues with it at all . Since so many of the new laptops come without ports for DVD's or other external devices this is pretty much something you need to have on hand because someday in the middle of a project you are going to need it!

This is an update to my previous review (below). The sellers responded immediately with their concern requesting I send them pictures or video of my problem. Since I wrote this, I had been using my direct connection. Today I thought I'd give it a try and video tape the issue. I connected my Mac to the beautiful gold Lention toggle along with two USB connections at 11 AM. It charged beautifully and has continued to receive a charge for the last 6 hours. I'm so happy with it now and apologize to the sellers. I'm not sure what the problem was and have attached a video clip showing the spacer that appeared to be a potential problem. I've upgraded the star ranking from 2 to 5! I really wanted the gold toggle so I replaced a white one I already had and worked fine. Although this is beautiful next to my gold Mac and G-Drive, it doesn't consistently stay connected. It will charge for a a short period of time and disconnect. I thought that the white plastic neck or spacer between the connector to my Mac and the gold sleeve needed to be removed as if there was a problem with the connection. but it doesn't appear to be removable. So I'm back to using my white toggle and if I feel like continually pulling it out and in again to achieve a connection, I'll use my more visually appealing gold. If it stayed connected, I'd certainly give it 5 stars.

I bought this hub because my new refurb MacBook came with one USB C port and nothing else. I needed to expand available external connections since My backups are on an external SSD. The Lention hub sounded like a good option - not expensive and supports a variety of USB plugs. It also looks good. I found that the hub more than met my needs. The USB C and the USB 3 are super fast. I can charge the Macbook battery through the USB C while using one of the other plugs for the SSD or for a printer. The USB ports on the device have the minimum necessary separation so if the plugs have a large case or a USB thumbdrive is wide then it may not be possible to use all the ports at the same time. The manufacturer was faced with an engineering decision to balance accommodating several plugs with keeping the hub small. They made the correct choice in my opinion. I have not had a need to use all the ports simultaneously. Now for the service rating. I received the package a day earlier than promised. It worked only for a half hour. The Macbook kept telling me that I was disconnecting a device incorrectly even though I wasn't trying to disconnect. I contacted the manufacturer immediately by email since this product received some really good reviews. I sent the message on a Friday hoping to get a response the following Monday. Instead, I received on notice on Saturday morning that they were dispatching a new hub that day. I don't know when it arrived because I had to be out of town. The new device was there when I got back. It worked perfectly. The multiple follow-up emails were even more satisfying.
