Physiology (Board Review)

Ideal for 2nd Year Medical Students.
Great for physio review while you're learning pathology as an MSII. When I read this during first year... things just didn't click as well because she does reference pathologic states while simultaneously reviewing/teaching physiology. Now that I have a better overview of pathology it's actually easier for me to re-learn & fill in physiology knowledge gaps. It's like a positive feedback cycle for me: general path knowledge --> better understanding of physio --> better understanding of path --> enhanced understanding of physio -->enhanced understanding of path.Summary:1st Yr Med Student - read big Costanzo's and actually try to *learn* physiology.2nd Yr Med Student - perfect review this book alongside relevant pathology coursework.I plan to also reference this book during my dedicated USMLE Step 1 study period.

Great at explaining the big picture
This book just a great job of breaking down major points in each section. However, if you have a teacher like mine, we go into a lot of detail. For instance Liver physiology was literally a paragraph I think so it didnt help at all with that section. However, I like this book for getting the big picture of how thinks work, then I use my class notes/textbook to get more specific information. I wish that there were more questions available at the end of each chapter.

Time saver!
I'm a M2 med student.Every med student wish they had more hours during the day to study. This book saved a lot of time for me! I annotated in the book during lecture with important details (i.e. clinically relevant) that I expect will be on the exam. During review, I quickly read through the relevant sections and then I just do practice questions out of Guyton and Pretest. It is so much more time efficient than rereading the hundreds of pages of PP the professors love to shove down our throats. I smoked both the midterm and final on physio with this strategy (A+ both exams) and spent less time than my peers studying thanks to this awesome book!

Good content, cheaply made.
I will update this review once I actually read the book all the way through but as of right now it does the job getting you the right equations & the basic info. You definitely need another larger book to reference every now and then but a good addition. Something I'm curious about is the page thickness. I had recently gotten the BRS Biochemistry book (6e) & it has nice sturdy pages, whereas this book has flimsy almost tissue paper like pages. I am already afraid of ripping them since they collapse with the lightest touch. Why 2 books of the same series vary so drastically is beyond me.Also be ready for this book to be much thinner than the Biochemistry book. This is due to the amount of content and pages needed for mechanisms, but it was still a surprise to me.

This board review book is a must!
This board review book is a must! Not only for preparing for boards, but also for physiology while in med school. I was a TA for 5 semesters in physiology during my undergrad years and thought that physiology in medical school would be relatively easy because of my experience. Man was I wrong, undergrad physiology is simply a dabble of what you will get in med school. This book covers all the major concepts and had awesome practice questions to help you on boards but also the test you have next week.

This is a great resource! The chapters are concise and cover all ...
First year medical student here. This is a great resource! The chapters are concise and cover all of the material I have needed to know for exams. You can get the longer Constanzo Phys book to get more explanations on certain topics, but this book is structured more like an outline. However, I predominately use this book over the longer Constanzo textbook. Overall, very useful! I use it for each system in our system-based curriculum.

Great Book, overpriced.
Great Book perfect for second year of medical school, extremely overpriced though. If they lowered the price to 25-30 would be a 5 star product. Obviously this is subjective on the "price for knowledge" and is just my opinion since the book is very thin and paperback.

Physio Studying
This book provided extra study questions which were super helpful. The answers are provided and the authors walk you through the answers in a way that helps you understand how to think the questions through.
