Quiet & Economical Pump
The pump is very quiet like any other variable speed pump. I am pleased with the price and I hope it lasts as long as my old single speed Hayward pump (16 years). Installation was relatively easy. I had to make few minor tweaks to existing plumbing as this pump has different dimensions. I had to raise the height of the pump by adding RV jack pads so that I would do minimal plumbing work. You may buy them at any store for <$30. I wanted something that would be weather resistant and not look too bad. Else, you may go cheaper by buying floor tiles or patio pavers. You just need to try different things to see what works best for you. The pump has a clock and timer runs off the pump. My old pump was connected to a mechanical timer. I did not want to spend $$ on an electrician. I used the existing wires routed to the mechanical timers and to the pump but I removed the start-stops on the timer so that the pump timer would drive the program and not the mechanical timer. Each situation is unique and you may need to get creative. My old pump had a freeze guard, which is a mechanical knob and you set the temp to kick on when you want to. With the new pump, since I bypassed the mechanical timer, I was worried about cold weather affecting my pump/plumbing & pool. However, the tech support over phone mentioned that the pump will automatically kick on when it reaches near freezing temps and I verified that it actually did kick on when temps were low. He also suggested that I could just leave the pump running on one speed on manual mode if I knew that we would have cold days. I am yet to try custom programs but for now, I will just stick to the default program. Overall, I am pleased with the price, performance, noise level, and relative ease of installation.

Very Pleasantly Surprised
So it has been 11 months since I purchased and installed this pool pump and I intentionally waited this long in order to give a review because I've found that many products seem to work well initially but after a couple of months falter, so I wanted to give some time to see this product fail. So, this is my third pool pump adventure and on my last "go around, I tried just replacing the motor" which was a pain in the ass; so this may actually be considered my fourth pool pump ordeal. Prior to this B&D purchase, I must say I was a main-streamer and I purchased Hayward or Pentair products. So, this purchase was really based upon reading some reviews and the warranty period. Every other pool pump seemed to come with either a one or two year warranty and my purchases always seem to fail a year after the warranty ends. This product comes with a 5 year warranty and that peaked my interest. So I took a bite and purchased the 2 hp version for my 24k gallon pool. Installation was a little more tricky because the B&D has a slightly lower profile than the bigger Hayward 2.0 that I was replacing. So repiping was a bitch because the original pool installers didn't give me any excess 2" pipe to work with, so I had to get out the saw and glue and repipe and move things around a bit more than I wanted. So, now it's installed and the thing does move some water and it's multi-speed and programmable and it's well worth the time to watch a YouTube video on how to program it, because you don't need your pool pump running 24/7, especially at 3,000 rpm. So, I set mine to run high rpm's at start up at 6am for a couple of hours, then slower at the second setting, then slower again at the third and slower then at the fourth setting and then it shuts down for the night and we start the process all over in the morning. You can also set it manually if you anticipate a heavy swimmer load in the pool that day. The best part about this pump is how quiet it is. At high rpm's it's probably 50% quieter than my old Hayward 2.0. At the lower rpm's you can't really hear it running and my old Hayward was one speed wonder, so it was either on or off.Lastly, I was a guy that went for the higher brands when it came to power and garden tools and I always regarded B&D products to be for the bargain end tools, but now I've changed my mind because so far when they agreed to put their money and name on this product, it has worked. Hope these comments help.

Wow!! Very Impressed.
I purchased this pump in an emergency after my 20+ year-old Hayward single speed pump failed while opening the pool this year (I live in Colorado). I found this pump on Amazon, and was at first very hesitant because of the "Black and Decker" name, but based on the reviews decided to to purchase.Pump was in stock and arrived in 2 days. Very easy to install if you have basic PVC cutting and gluing skills, you'll be fine. If you are replacing a Hayward pump, the height of the inlet is exact, however, I found that Hayward threads do not match, so I did have to replace the thread coupler with the couplers provided with the pump.Wiring was very simple. The only wiring issue I had was that I had to change out the wiring harness coupler from 1" to 3/4" (reducer found at Home Depot). After installation, this thing fired up and self primed very quickly and has been amazing. The amount of water this thing moves at 3000 rpm is amazing and it's very easy to program your own programs or you can use the pre-programed settings. I had to re-program a couple of settings only because my heater will shut off at the lowest setting (1000 rpm), so I had to kick that low setting up a bit to keep the heater running. Very easy to do.I have a 50,000 gallon pool and the 2 HP pump is perfectly adequate. The pump sits roughly 30' from the pool and the suction at the skimmers is amazing. Also, I have a large sand filter and it runs the filter at 20 psi at 3000 rpm.I am going to purchase the 3 hp (same dimensions as the 2 hp) and install for the main filtration and move this 2 HP over to my water features (fountains, slide and deck jets).Great purchase, very, very happy.
